Founded in 1995, a tavola is one of the city’s best restaurants, bringing Chicago an intimate and authentic dining experience. At a tavola the emphasis is, appropriately, on the food. Authentic dishes from Italian regions are re-created using Italian cooking methods and the finest imported Italian products.

a tavola is the culmination of professional cooking experience by Daniel Bocik, a versatile chef from Chicago, who brings back home the knowledge and experience of an education at the California Culinary Academy and the finest restaurants of San Francisco, Paris, and Milan. To ensure the freshest food at a tavola, fresh fruits and vegetables are selected from a local organic farmer, meats and seafood are personally selected by Chef Dan from local markets.

Food is absolutely wonderful here. I split ragu, gnocchi, and short rib here and all were delicious. The service here was great too. My waiter gave us a small wine pairing with the short rib simply because he knew it would enhance the flavor even though we didn’t order it. It’s small gestures like this that sets A Tavola apart. It’s a perfect intimate date spot in a very inconspicuous location. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Fantastic in every way. You are made to feel welcome the moment you walk in the door. it's quiet and beautiful. You can actually have a conversation. Music is in the background. The food was delicious--we loved every dish. Dan't wait to return.

Great dinner at a tavola yet again. Celebrated a friend’s birthday and they took great care of us. All of the waiter’s recommendations were delicious… from the marinated mushrooms to the gnocchi to the short rib dish. He helped us pick a delicious wine that paired well with our meal too. Highly recommend for the food, the service, and the ambience.

I was just greeted by a rat in the alley when I arrived - I’m terrified of those. Since there’s no way to move to the patio after entering the building - the kitchen is right in between. Service was nice, ambience was top notch it felt upscale and intimate. The food was not outstanding - we tried the gnocchi, the tonnarelli and the calamari. The server felt a little pushy trying to get us to buy the 3 course menu (69 bucks) by telling us the dinner portions were not served when ordering a la carte.

Amazing staff and ambience. Greeting at door friendly and welcoming. Chose to dine on patio, perfect evening for that. Food wonderful. Happily surprised to see Grouper on the menu. We were not rushed. A thoroughly enjoyable evening with out of town guests. They were most impressed with the food, service and general ambience. Will def go back. Have already recommended to other friends. A true gem in Ukrainian Village.

Loved this place! Def a hidden gym for us! Food was exceptional, service exceptional! Especially loved the Gnocchi! Will go back for sure! Adorable place as well!

Very bland pasta w/next to no flavor. Prob the worst gnocchi in Chicago… also the apple torta was more like baby food.

Wonderful experience. Served was kind and knowledgeable. Food was delicious. Shared the caprese salad and gnocchi. Both were excellent. Also ordered the grouper and bolognese. Everything was so fresh and tasty. Really great time. Will go back again.
