From the minute we arrived, it felt like we were slightly unwelcome. The Maitre’d didn’t bring wine/drink menu, and did not understand English. My order came out a different dish than what I ordered, but could see that the chicken was overcooked, then both my and my husband’s chicken were overcooked. It never felt like we could get the waiter’s attention. Overall, a very lackluster meal for $178. The waiter was very apologetic for messing up the order and gave us a free dessert, but we didn’t really want it. I would have preferred that he comped us a drink or one meal.

The food and ambience was excellent. We had a private room with a square table that doubles as their wine cellar. It had walls with wine bottles from floor to ceiling in glass cabinets. That brings us to the wine service. We ordered 2 bottles for the table and the house Montepulcino was decent. What really annoyed me was how they pours almost full glasses without asking permission. My glass had a little wine in it because as the host I tasted the bottle. But because of a medical condition I have been advised to avoid drinking. So that glass was a total waste. My partner drinks very lightly and she would never want a refill and would have asked the first glass to be a half. My staff is not about to drink a lot at a company dinner. What added insult to injury is that I asked one waiter to ask permission to pour and then a second waiter went ahead and did the same. Clearly bad training or intentional to drive up the cost. Neither asked me for permission to bring out the second bottles (we also had a white). This is classic “clip” joint behavior which put me on edge.

Jose, my waiter was very attentive. I started with the Cesar salad, which was delicious and the accompanying bread was amazing. My entree was the snapper with shrimp, which I really enjoyed. It came with roasted potatoes, and I ordered the broccoli also, which was very good. I recommend this restaurant if you are visiting nyc and staying in the area.
