   This is a cozy restaurant tucked in one of the small patio areas of Carmel. There is inside and patio seating. We were there on a Saturday early evening about 10 days before Christmas and while it was full when we arrived, we were the last to leave at 8pm. Our dietary restrictions make eating out a challenge but we were happy with our meals at Basil. We had the roasted pear and Gorgonzola salad which was delicious. We both had gluten free pasta: one with pomodoro sauce, the other bolognese and they were very good. We finished with a chocolate tartufo and a warm flourless chocolate cake. We enjoyed the flavors of these desserts but the cake, which was very dense chocolate, could have used a little more ice cream. We had the best cappuccinos we’ve ever had and that includes our extensive world travels. A very enjoyable evening.

   We used to have lunch at Basil quite a bit (always excellent) but the pandemic interrupted that. Decided we needed to revisit so two neighbors joined us for dinner last night and our expectations were exceeded! Great cocktails (superb Manhattan & Old Fashioned), delicious appetizers (small pizza & Focaccia-be SURE to get the burrata w/the Focaccia!) and 4 excellent entrees. The menu is extensive, service very good and pricing is moderate but a good value. It was a bit noisy inside because of a very large table/party of a dozen plus people & children but there is heated outside seating available. If you’re fortunate to have Fredrico as your server, you’ll have an especially fun time. Basil is as good as ever - highly recommend.

   We really enjoyed the food and thought it was excellent but the service was not good. The waiter (who may have been the owner or manager) forgot part of our order (we had no salad) and did not provide good service. There was a party of 9, one other couple and my husband and me in the restaurant and most of the service was focused on the large party. We sat for some time when we finished our meal, our dessert, our wine and our water and had to ask for our check so we could leave. We were also surprised by the $50 corkage fee. If corkage is that high, I believe it should be communicated to the customer.

   A charming restaurant with delicious food and great service. We will definitely make Basil a restaurant we return to when we’re in Carmel.

   Nearly an hour wait for two servings of pasta - they are not properly staffed. It’s a shame given the food was great (at least I think it was although we were very hungry by the time the food arrived).

   Basil is a truly excellent restaurant. First and foremost, the food is very high quality, expertly prepared. Service is prompt and friendly without an attitude, very pleasant ambiance. Relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable.
