   We had a great Krismas Eve meal with Chef Abel. We ordered our filet medium rare, and he cooked it perfectly. Our scallops, shrimp appetizer, and chicken were also cooked perfectly. I will definitely come back in the future when my waistline goes down a titch.

   I normally have a good time when going to Benihana, but this time something was off. Granted, it was clearly a busy night, despite being a Monday. We were late being seated and getting water, and the hibachi table wasn’t turned on by the time the chef arrived so things were further delayed. The chef was clearly put off by this and showed his irritation throughout the service, and it affected the vibe at the table, creating a more subdued experience than I am used to. The food was good as always but I was disappointed with how the service went considering I went for my birthday.

   We made a reservation for 4:45 to be able to make a 7:00 show. We were seated at 5:15 and the chef couldn’t start cooking until about 6:15 because the table took so long to heat up. They should heat the tables before people are seated in my opinion and the seat people when their reservation is. When we arrived at 4:45 the place was empty, so I don’t understand the problem. The chef was great but we had to rush out just minutes after our main meal was served. I had to leave my plate basically untouched and couldn’t take it with me because I wasn’t going to bring it to the ballet.

   It took way too long to seat us. I love Benihana but the service was just not that great. Good place for lunch but not great during holidays. Took an additional 45 min to just seat us from our reservation then once we sat down didn’t even get our drinks for another 40 min

   Fun place for a large group. Good staff and entertaining. I could do without the service charge, but I guess everybody in San Francisco thinks it’s OK to do that.
