It’s not just restaurants that are embracing the plant-based revolution – London’s pubs are adapting too. If you’re looking for somewhere to take your meat-free mates, check out these vegetarian and vegan-friendly pubs in London.
The Spread Eagle, Homerton
Everything is plant-based at The Spread Eagle, from the food and booze to the fixtures and fittings. Club Mexicana are in residence, serving Mexican-inspired street food that’s 100% vegan and packed full of flavour. Get some friends together for a mid-week taco feast or visit at the weekend to try their new brunch menu.
The Coach & Horses, Soho
This old-school boozer was one of the early adopters, going fully vegetarian back in 2012. Stop by for tofush and chips, their hearty mushroom and leek pie, or a meat-free Sunday roast. After a few vegan-friendly beers, you might find yourself joining in one of their singalongs around the piano.
Draft House, all over London
There are now 12 Draft House bars across London, plus a new one opening in Farringdon this December. They take their beer seriously and the food menu doesn’t disappoint either. Vegetarians can tuck into five bean chilli, jerk halloumi fingers, and a Korean seitan and slaw burger. Don’t leave without trying their jalapeno mac ‘n’ cheese balls – they’re perfect with a cold beer.
Visit OpenTable to make a reservation at their bars in Camden, Paddington, Tower Bridge, Seething Lane, and Old Street.
The Blacksmith & The Toffeemaker, Clerkenwell
This St John Street pub went vegan back in January and the new menu quickly proved a hit with locals. Popular dishes include the tofish and kimchi banh mi, aloo tikka burger, and a ‘chuna melt’ (made with chickpeas instead of tuna). Pop in on Monday for the pub quiz and 2-for-1 food if you bring a donation for the Trussell Trust foodbank.
The Long Arm, Shoreditch
With craft beers brewed on site, there’s always something interesting on tap at this bar on the Shoreditch / City fringe. Add live sports, Happy Hour deals, and pool table to the mix and it’s easy to see why this place is so popular. Feeling peckish? There are vegan burgers, nuggets and Kentucky fried cauliflower, plus wings and cheeseburgers for your meat-eating mates.
The Duke of Cambridge, Islington
After 15 years of independent trading, Britain’s first certified organic pub teamed up with Riverford, famous for its veg box scheme and farm shops. With organic veg supplied by their farm in Devon, the menu changes with the seasons and there’s always plenty for vegetarians to enjoy. Expect dishes that let the produce shine, such as roast squash with caponata or burrata with sprouting broccoli and romesco sauce.
The Grafton Arms, Fitzrovia
Set back from the bustle of Tottenham Court Road, this handsome gastropub is a top choice for a post-work pint or a leisurely lunch. The menu is pan-Asian and there are plenty of veggie options, from gyoza and tempura to laksa and Thai green curry. If you don’t fancy beer, try the Grafton Plum Spritz made with plum wine, elderflower liqueur, prosecco and soda.
