Looking for some summer dining inspiration? We’ve rounded up some recent reviews from our favourite food bloggers. We’re always looking for new ones to follow, so if you read or write a great blog that reviews restaurants in the UK, get in touch!
If you’re looking for a Chinese dinner with a difference, check out The London Foodie’s review of BarShu – a Sichuan restaurant in Soho. With most dishes topped with fiery dried chillies or doused in chilli oil, it’s definitely not one for the faint hearted! Luiz was so impressed that he declared it one of the best Chinese meals he has eaten in recent years. Definitely one for the To Do list.
Over at The Cutlery Chronicles, Leyla was invited to Scarfes Bar, the seriously stylish cocktail bar at the Rosewood Hotel in Holborn. Instead of the standard bar snacks, they serve refined Indian dishes like ‘glossy black daal’ and South Indian style fish in ‘a rich gravy with glorious hits of cardamom’.
Rocket & Squash visited Beast, the new-ish venture from the team behind Goodman and Burger & Lobster. There’s no menu, you just pay £75 a head for the food and let them do the rest. After antipasti and serve-yourself parmesan, there’s a feast of steak (‘top quality and beautifully cooked’) and Norwegian king crab (‘Rich, sweet, filling. More like lobster than brown crab’).
James vs Burger visited Glasgow newcomer, Alston Bar & Beef – a modern steakhouse and gin bar hidden beneath Glasgow’s Central Station. He loved the industrial underground setting and couldn’t fault their ‘extremely juicy’ 35-day aged rump burger. If you’re in Glasgow and craving cocktails and a great steak, this could be the place.
Heading to Port Isaac this summer? The Food Tourist recommends Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen for fresh crab on toast and a delicious smoked haddock Scotch egg with curry sauce.
Manchester food blogger Hunger Jams took a train to Liverpool to check out the ‘Tastes of the Sea’ seafood night at Catalan restaurant, Lunya. We love the look of the fideua – angel hair pasta studded with crayfish, prawns and lobster, topped with punchy alioli. Lunya runs regular special events (including suckling pig roasts) but it’s just as good for a tapas lunch or an evening of wine and paella.
