After a sold out London event last year, Meatopia returns to Tobacco Dock this September for a weekend of music and meat from some of the top pitmasters in the UK and the US.
On Saturday, the theme will be ‘Old Skool’, featuring classic BBQ and Southern smoke with electric blues, bluegrass and acoustic jams. On the Sunday, the vibe is ‘New Skool’ so expect contemporary ‘cue, electronica and DJ sets. All the meat will be cooked over logs or charcoal and comes courtesy of Islington butchers, Turner & George.
Described by Time Out as the ’ultimate carnivore’s carnival’, the festival will be hosted by Hawksmoor’s Richard Turner, The Lockhart’s Brad McDonald, and Dirty Bones’ Ross Clarke. This year’s special guests include Home Team BBQ from South Carolina, David Pynt of Burnt Ends in Singapore, and Andre Lima de Luca of BOS BBQ in Brazil.
Like last year, all of the chefs and restaurants will produce dishes in taster sized portions so guests can try as many of them as possible. Meat lovers can look forward to BBQ specials from Lucky Chip, Big Easy, The Jugged Hare, Shake Shack, Barbecoa and more. We’re looking forward to Q Grill’s pigs cheeks with foie gras butter and the pit smoked lamb buns from Flesh & Buns.
Meatopia is held at Tobacco Dock on September 6th and 7th. Tickets are on sale now, priced at £30 for a day ticket or £55 for a weekend pass. Kids under 14 go free and you can also order your MeatBucks in advance to spend on food on the day.
