Blog bites: What we're reading

Give the takeaways and old favourites a break this month and try somewhere new! We’ve rounded up some recent reviews from our favourite food bloggers to help you get inspired.

Before jetting off to Ibiza this month, Bianca from Pretty Hungry managed to squeeze in a sun-soaked breakfast at Caravan on Exmouth Market, fish and chips at Poppies, and a pre-theatre feast at Chotto Matte, a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant in Soho. We’re definitely adding their Nikkei sashimi and Pollo Peruvano to our ‘Must Eat’ list.

If you live near Kensal Green and haven’t tried Parlour yet, take a look at this glowing review from London Eater. Chef Jesse Dunford Wood’s famous ‘cow pie’ is as good as ever and we love the Eton Tidy that you get to mess up yourself. In the blogger’s own words, ‘The fantasy cooking is top-notch and I think this is truly a hidden gem’.

Fancy trying some of East London’s finest food spots in one day? Then read The Very Hungry Londoner’s review of Eating London’s food tours. Perfect for impressing out-of-towners but equally useful for locals, it stops at some of our favourites like cheese specialists Androuet, the Brick Lane Beigel Bake, and St John Bread & Wine.

Curries at Pushkar, Birmingham.

Craving curry in Birmingham? There are lots of great Indian restaurants to choose from, including the ever-popular Itihaas in the Jewellery Quarter. Chloe from Gastronomic Gorman went along to their blogger event to try signature dishes like lamb chop masala, butter chicken and lobster panchphoran – ‘a whole lobster served in the shell with a spiced coconut curry sauce’. With food this good, it’s no wonder Itihaas is one of our most booked restaurants in Birmingham!

For a meat-free meal, check out vegetarian food blogger Andy’s review of Pushkar for Dine Birmingham. The award-winning restaurant ‘feels glamorous, yet relaxed’ and with delicious veggie kofta curries and classics like saag paneer on offer, you definitely won’t leave hungry.

Back in August, Nomface reviewed 47 King Street West – one of our top rated restaurants in Manchester. The menu has British and French influences and we like the look of the scallop and chorizo starter and the perfectly pink rack of lamb. The restaurant is currently running an offer of 3 courses and a glass of Prosecco for £25 so if you’re local, why not give it a try this weekend?
