Low 'n' slow: 10 of the best UK barbecue joints

If you’re hungry for barbecue but don’t fancy firing up the grill, here are ten UK restaurants that are guaranteed to satisfy your cravings for ‘cue. From slow-smoked ribs in Dalston to pulled pork platters in Brighton, one thing’s for sure – you won’t leave hungry!

HotBox, London – This east London BBQ restaurant serves some of the best barbecue you’ll find outside the USA. Swing by for a boozy weekend brunch or go for dinner and try their legendary ribs, hot link sausages, and chipotle beef rib tacos topped with chimichurri and crispy shallots.

Hickory’s, Chester – Inspired by their trips to the southern states, Hickory’s serve fantastic Texas style beef brisket, dry rubbed ribs, and super spicy chicken wings that are not for the faint-hearted!

Barbecoa, London – It’s all about meat, fire and smoke at Jamie Oliver’s barbecue steakhouse overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral. Try the slow-roasted pit beef, dry aged steaks, and baby back ribs with Korean slaw.

Cane & Grain, Manchester – Head to the Northern Quarter for three floors of rum, ribs, bourbon and beer. After a few drinks in the Liars Lounge tiki bar, make your way to the ground floor rib joint for sweet and tender pork and beef ribs with truffled mac ‘n’ cheese, Carolina slaw or smoky buttered corn.

Slim’s Pork Chop Express, Liverpool – Offering a British take on American BBQ, Slim’s serves incredible ribs, house smoked sausage, and paprika-rubbed beer can chicken. They’re also open for brunch, serving American-style pancakes, steak and eggs, and chicken and waffles.

Q Grill, London – At this smokehouse opposite Camden’s Stables Market, you can feast on killer ribs, Josper grilled steaks, and seriously good fried chicken. Don’t leave without trying a bag of their sticky hen wings.

Smokeys, Brighton – Perfect for a beachside BBQ blow-out, Smokeys is famous for their 16 hour pulled pork and fully loaded burgers. Hot dog fans will love their smoked sausage topped with spicy beef chilli.

Duke’s Brew & Que, London – Hang with the locals at this Dalston BBQ joint where it’s all about craft beer, enormous burgers and classic ‘cue. Their beef ribs, smoked over hickory and mesquite wood, are a real treat for carnivores and we’re big fans of their pulled pork sliders and fried pickles.

Bourbon & Black, Manchester – At this Didsbury Village gem you can start your night in the ground floor whiskey bar and then head upstairs for flame grilled steaks and Woodford Reserve pulled pork.

One Sixty, London – Skip the classics at this West Hampstead smokehouse and try their signature smoked lamb, tender ox cheek and a side of rib tips. If you’re not a north London local, we’ve got good news – they’re opening a second restaurant near Liverpool Street station this summer.
