Now that sunshine and Wimbledon have finally arrived, the British summer can officially begin. If you didn’t manage to bag tickets for the tennis, don’t worry – you can get into the spirit with these delicious Wimbledon-inspired desserts.
At elegant Italian restaurant, Sartoria, chef Francesco Mazzei has created this beautiful Amalfi lemon cream and ice-cream dessert, garnished with fresh strawberries. Why not enjoy it alfresco on their terrace? It’s the perfect place to soak up the sun on Savile Row and enjoy a spritz (or two).
Aviary, the rooftop restaurant overlooking Finsbury Square, is celebrating Wimbledon with this stunning dessert – a white chocolate and pistachio mousse ‘tennis ball’ with wild strawberry curd. On a hot sunny day, there’s no finer place to soak up the sun and enjoy a bite to eat and a refreshing glass of frosé.
In a nod to the tennis, OXBO Bankside have given their signature sundae a seasonal revamp. The limited edition sundae features fresh strawberries, Chantilly cream, and strawberry coulis, topped with tennis ball macarons, white chocolate shards and popping candy. Top tip: If you visit early on Friday evenings, you can enjoy a 3-course meal with bottomless bubbles for £35 a head. Visit OpenTable to book.
If you’re looking for somewhere to watch the Championships on July 16th, Aqua Nueva will be screening all the action on their rooftop terrace. For one day only, they will also be serving a Wimbledon-inspired dessert featuring strawberry macarons, white chocolate gananche and pistachio crumble.
If you’re dining out in Wimbledon itself, The White Onion is a top choice for French food lovers. Head chef Frédéric Duval and his team have created this ‘Game, set and match’ dessert – a strawberry ganache filled ‘tennis ball’ on a white chocolate shell ‘court’ filled with lemon sponge. There are other Wimbledon-inspired treats on offer too, like cucumber gazpacho with picked strawberries and Pimm’s sorbet and the Wimbledon Royale (gin, Champagne and strawberry pureé).
Also in Wimbledon, The Ivy Café will be serving The Centre Court Melting Ball – a chocolate bombe with a white chocolate shell, served with fresh strawberries and shortbread. They’ve also teamed up with official sponsor, Pimms, to create an exclusive and very British cocktail, ‘The Pimmledon’ – Pimms, Tanqueray gin and all the fruity trimmings. Pimms lovers can also enjoy the classic No. 1 Cup, a Pimm’s Fizz (topped with Champagne), or The Gentleman’s Mule (with ginger beer). Top tip: Arrive early for a chance to dine alfresco in their sun-trap garden.
Stay tuned for our cocktails round-up later this week and if you’ve actually got tickets for the tennis, visit OpenTable to book a table at these restaurants in Wimbledon.
