With half the country jetting off on holiday, this is the perfect time to eat out! It’s easier to get a table at the hot new openings and you’ve got more chance of finding a seat in the sun or by the river. Need some inspiration? Check out where some of our favourite food bloggers have been eating recently.
If you feel like trying something a little different, check out The Very Hungry Londoner’s review of LIMA Floral which recently opened in Covent Garden. With help from three fellow foodies, Fiona tried dishes like sea bream ceviche and lamb with yellow and blue potato. Her conclusion? ‘All the dishes were beautifully presented, little works of art, with vibrant colours, tastes and textures on every single plate. I loved the variety and playfulness of it all. I will definitely go back.’
One of our new discoveries this month is Mehreen’s blog, Wrap Your Lips Around This. If you’re looking for somewhere to ‘sip, nibble and people watch’ in the West End this summer, take a look at her review of 21. Their terrace tables are the perfect place to enjoy a few cocktails and some Italian stuzzichini.
There’s no shortage of great restaurants in Chelsea but if you fancy something really special, try The Five Fields. It gets rave reviews from OpenTable diners and A Girl Has To Eat recommends it for an evening of ‘relaxed sophistication, yummy food and spectacularly presented plates’.
Back in July, The Foodaholic blogged about his return trip to Battersea bistro, Augustine Kitchen. He wasn’t won over by his first visit but this time he couldn’t fault the classic French cooking. The standout dish? Roast cod with quinoa and an orange-rosemary sauce. ‘Cooked perfectly, skin off, and with one side so crunchy and a little salty – it left the mouth salivating…Every mouth was such a delight to eat.’
Argentinean steakhouse chain, CAU, recently opened in Bristol and invited some local bloggers down to try out the menu. Despite a few niggles, Bristol Bites declared the food ‘outstanding’ and recommends the Tira de Ancho – ‘an amazingly rich and tender spiral cut of rib eye, grilled slowly to keep it tender’. If you’re not hungry enough for steak, the small plates look good too.
Nadine from Eating Edinburgh revisited one of her favourite Italian restaurants, Locanda de Gusti. They recently moved to new premises on Dalry Road and it looks like the food is as good as ever. The homemade ravioli looks lovely but we’ve got our eye on the huge grilled seafood platter!
