It’s National Chocolate Week! A good excuse – if one were needed – to indulge your sweet tooth with all manner of sweet treats, choc-tails, and dreamy desserts. We’ve rounded up some of this year’s must-try specials.
Treat the chocoholic in your life to this stunning dessert created by The Game Bird’s pastry chef Magdalena Kubańska. Joining the menu just in time for Chocolate Week, the Valrhona chocolate ‘Bounty’ consists of chocolate sponge topped with coconut mousse and accompanied by a refreshing coconut sorbet.
You’ll need both hands to lift this enormous dessert burger, created by chef James Hulme at Paternoster Chop House. Between the choux pastry buns, there’s a chocolate ice-cream ‘burger’, topped with orange icing cheese, white chocolate onion rings, vanilla Chantilly cream mayo, confit orange tomatoes, and raspberry sauce ketchup. It’s on the menu until Sunday – don’t miss out.
The Sanderson Hotel has teamed up with award-winning chocolatier William Curley to create a 4-course chocolate-infused menu, cocktails for the Long Bar, and a pop-up shop. Book a table in the restaurant to enjoy Orkney scallops with squid ink polenta and cocoa nibs, followed by venison with cranberry gel and 100% cocoa. The star of the show is this warm Amedei chocolate moelleux with cherry compote and pistachio ice-cream.
Head south of the river for a southern Italian supper at Fiume, right beside Battersea Power Station. We’re big fans of their classic tiramisu, but this week we might be tempted by the fluffy glazed doughnut ring topped with pistachio ice-cream, rich chocolate sauce, and roasted pistachio crumb. Just add a Negroni or two and some good company for the perfect riverside date night.
If you work near Liverpool Street, you’re probably already familiar with South Place Chop House and its gutsy British cooking. For Chocolate Week, their pastry chef Nelson Sa has created this elegant chocolate bombe. The shell melts under warm chocolate sauce to reveal vanilla ice-cream and it’s accompanied by poached pear and pear sponge. Pair it with a glass of fizz for the ultimate after-work or weekend treat.
