Now that it’s officially summer and we’ve got the sunshine to prove it, it’s time to make the most of the British strawberry season. Add them to Pimms, drench them in cream, or eat them straight from the punnet – they’re perfect for picnics and packed with vitamin C. The beautiful berries are at their best this month so we’ve chosen five of the best places to enjoy them in London.
Aqua Shard is celebrating its first birthday this month with a limited edition dessert. Head to Level 31 to try the pear tuile ‘shard’ filled with chocolate mousse and served with lemon mascarpone, marshmallows and caramelised strawberries.
If you like the fruit to be the star of the show, head for Rivea – a new Knightsbridge restaurant from Alain Ducasse that’s inspired by the flavours of the French and Italian Riviera. The dessert menu includes a simple but stunning dish of rhubarb, strawberries and almond ice-cream.
Just a few floors up from Aqua Shard is TING – one of the elegant dining options at the Shangri-La Hotel. Treat yourself to dinner with a view and don’t miss their signature panna cotta with strawberry compote, meringue and strawberry sorbet.
This strawberry mess with lemon curd, mini meringues and crème Chantilly is one of the new ‘Petit Pots’ at Vivat Bacchus. It’s available now at their restaurants in Farringdon and London Bridge, alongside other seasonal options like blueberry cheesecake and rhubarb and custard.
No sweet tooth? No problem! At Gordon Ramsay’s Union Street Café in Southwark, you can try this deliciously unusual risotto with strawberries, tomatoes, basil and aged balsamic.
