Fondue in London: Five ways to indulge this winter

What better way to chase away the winter blues than with a huge pot of molten cheese? As the nights get darker and the weather turns chilly, we’re ready for some Alpine-inspired indulgence. From pop-up winter cabins to cosy French bistros, here are five places to enjoy fondue in London this winter.

The Cheese Bar, Camden
Where better to indulge your passion for cheese than at London’s very own Cheese Bar? Situated in the Stables Market, it serves everything from grilled cheese toasties and queso fundido to cheeseboards you can pair with wine and beer. At just £14pp, their Cornish Gouda and Kern fondue is deliciously affordable and served with plenty of new potatoes, cornichons, and sourdough. You can order dunkable extras like truffled mushrooms and crispy smoked pork belly for £4 each.

The Berkeley Winter Cabins, Knightsbridge
The five-star Berkeley Hotel is bringing après-ski chic to Knightsbridge this winter with five chalet-style cabins nestled amongst the fairy lights. While they can’t promise snow, there are plenty of Alpine-inspired treats to enjoy, from rösti and schnitzel to raclette and Swiss cheese fondue. Save a little room for winter warmer puddings like pear and ginger crumble, tarte tatin, and flambéed baked Alaska. With blankets and heaters to keep things toasty, these cosy cabins are the ideal spot to enjoy a glass of Champagne or a rum-infused hot chocolate with friends and loved ones this festive season.

Haugen, Stratford
Slip into your cosiest cashmere for a visit to this Alpine-inspired restaurant overlooking the Olympic Park. The menu ticks all the comfort food boxes with dishes like tartiflette, chicken schnitzel, and confit duck leg rösti. There are two savoury fondues on offer: classic Swiss cheese with white wine and garlic and a plant-based version made with pumpkin and vegan cheese. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, there’s also an indulgent chocolate fondue for dessert, served with marshmallows, shortbread, strawberries and roasted pineapple.

Le Vieux Comptoir
Home to the Ginger Pig, La Fromagerie and Rococo Chocolates, Moxon Street is a foodie haven just off Marylebone High Street. At the end of the street, you’ll find Le Vieux Comptoir – a charming French wine shop, deli and bistro – that’s perfect for long lunches and date night dinners. French food lovers can find all their favourites on the menu, from charcuterie and escargots to confit duck and steak tartare. There are few better places to enjoy traditional fondue Savoyarde and a bottle of wine (or two) with someone special.

Heritage, Soho
Tucked away from the bustle of Piccadilly Circus, Heritage is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a cheesy feast. Their signature blend of Vacherin Fribourgeois and Gruyère is served gently simmering, ready to be scooped up with mini potatoes and artisan bread. At the weekend, they serve brunch with bottomless bubbles and unlimited cheese fondue. Don’t make grand plans for the rest of the day because you’ll definitely need a nap!

You can enjoy even more molten fromage at Jimmy’s Lodge, St. Moritz, and Walluc Bistrot.
