Catch of the day: 3 new seafood restaurants in London

Feeling stuffed after the holidays? Swap the festive leftovers for something lighter, like a seafood supper at one of these new openings.

Wright Brothers, Battersea – Earlier this month, seafood specialists Wright Brothers opened their fifth restaurant, right beside the iconic Battersea Power Station. It’s a big, buzzy neighbourhood restaurant with an open kitchen, a marble-topped oyster bar, and a riverside terrace. We recommend taking a few friends along, because you’re going to want to order everything on the menu. Start with oysters and shellfish and then move on to dishes like Galician octopus with ajo blanco, fish soup, or Josper grilled hake with lemon and shrimp risotto. Top tip: From 3-6pm each day, oysters are £1 a pop – a very good reason to leave work early!

CLAW, Soho – After two years of trading at markets, festivals and pop-ups, CLAW has found a permanent home on Kingly Street in Soho. With seafood sourced directly from fishermen around the UK, owner Fabian Clark and chef Josh Levy have created a menu that is ‘a homage to the best of coastal Britain’. Expect grilled Colchester oysters, poke trout, and pork stuffed squid, alongside CLAW classics like crab donuts and crab mac ‘n’ cheese. Your fish-phobic friends can tuck into onglet with gremolata or butterflied baby chicken, and there are some interesting veg options too. CLAW opens in early January – keep an eye on their Twitter feed for soft launch dates.

Parsons, Covent Garden – The 10 Cases team have opened this cosy little fish restaurant right across the street from their buzzing bistrot. It’s relaxed and affordable, with day boat specials chalked up on the wall. The main menu offers snacks and starters like salt cod fritters, sea trout tartare, and a side of lobster mash – who could resist? The wine list is a real treat, with plenty of seafood-friendly whites to choose from, plus by-the-glass options starting at just £4. Book ahead, Parsons is perfect for date night or a pre-theatre supper.
