6 restaurants to try on your next trip to Frankfurt

Have you ever thought of paying Frankfurt a visit? The city, sometimes called “Mainhattan” due to its array of high rises, is spread along both banks of the Main River and has always held a special place in German history. After all, it gave Germany one of its most famous writers, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whose house you can visit. Frankfurt’s culinary scene is also thriving – here are six restaurants to try when you visit.

Margarete
Situated in Frankfurt’s Old Town, Margarete is a must-visit restaurant that specialises in delicious local and international cuisine. If you’d like to try authentic German cooking, their potato soup is an absolute must. Margarete is surrounded by museums, galleries and historical sights and also offers a take-out menu, in case you are pressed for time.

Moriki
Sushi lovers rejoice! Moriki offers authentic Japanese cuisine of the highest standard that will make you feel like you are in the land of the rising sun. Their salmon and tuna dishes are to die for and even the New York Times is a fan. Need we say more?

Vipho
Fans of Asian cuisine and culture will feel right at home at Vipho. The Vietnamese restaurant wows guests with its interior design – paper birds and traditional Vietnamese lamps hang from the ceiling –  and the restaurant’s menu follows suit. All dishes are home-made using spices have been sourced from Vietnam. You can watch corn-fed chicken being grilled in front of your eyes – you’ll feel like you’re in Hanoi.

Ojo de Agua
Sometimes all you need is a good glass of wine and a juicy steak. Ojo de Agua located next to inner city Frankfurt’s upmarket Börsenplatz offers the best steaks in town and the restaurant’s owner sources wine from his own vineyard in Argentina. It’s a true feel good place.

Seven Swans
Seven Swans offers award-winning vegetarian cuisine using top quality ingredients to create dishes with distinct flavours. If you’d like to treat yourself to a really special meal, this is the place to be. Don’t miss their bar located in the smallest house in Frankfurt (17 square meters) where up to 16 guests can sit and enjoy their cocktails. The bar has been modelled on spaces in Tokyo and oozes metropolitan charm.

Stanley Diamond
Stanley Diamond really is a diamond in the rough, purely because of its out-of-the-way location in the Frankfurt train station area. Once you have managed to reach the inside of this little gem, you’ll be rewarded for your persistence. Stanley Diamond is the place to eat traditional German dishes with a modern twist. We recommend trying one of their tasting menus – choose between six, seven or eight courses.
