Step into spring: 5 new afternoon teas to try in London

Whether you fancy galactic cupcakes, floral flavours, or serious chocolate indulgence, we’ve got an afternoon tea that fits the bill.

Alexander Hamilton Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough

At The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge, head pastry chef Gabriel Le Quang has created some delicious new cakes inspired by the hit musical Hamilton. Alongside their famous scones, diners can enjoy a blueberry cheesecake sphere (inspired by the purple colour and gold buttons of Hamilton’s uniform), an ‘exotic lace cupcake’, and a chocolate shortbread star (representing the stars on the American flag). There’s also a twist on the classic pecan pie and a grapefruit religieuse, so come hungry!

Details: £39 per person or £49 with a glass of Champagne.

Easter Afternoon Tea at May Fair Kitchen

Described by Vogue as ‘every chocoholic’s dream come true’, May Fair Kitchen serves a deliciously decadent chocolate-themed afternoon tea. There are chocolate scones, doughnuts with chocolate dipping sauce, and an assortment of Charbonnel et Walker truffles – what could be better? This Easter they’re adding an extra treat – a handcrafted chocolate nest filled with mini chocolate eggs.

Details: £35 per person or £45 with a glass of Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial NV. Easter tea served until April 2nd.

Gravi-Tea at Skylon

If you’re visiting the Southbank this spring, head to Skylon for a truly out-of-this-world experience. Their new Gravi-Tea promises to take you on an edible journey through the galaxy, so expect galactic cupcakes, cosmos mini choux, galaxy macarons, and Jupiter cakes. To bring you back down to earth, there will be pots of tea and a selection of traditional sandwiches to nibble on while you enjoy the views across the Thames. Why not stretch out the afternoon with a cocktail or two? We like the sound of their StarDust cocktail, made with Tanqueray, lemon sherbet, pineapple and tarragon syrup, green chartreuse and prosecco.

Details: £25 per person. Available until 30th June 2018.

The Balthazar x FLOWERBX Afternoon Tea

Balthazar in Covent Garden has teamed up with flower delivery service FLOWERBX to create a selection of cakes inspired by the season’s most exquisite flowers. There are exotic and traditional teas to choose from but if you fancy something stronger, try the FLOWERBX Fizz – a vodka-based cocktail infused with crushed violet petals. After dainty finger sandwiches and buttermilk scones, guests will be served a selection of colourful cakes including a coconut and yuzu hydrangea, a lemon and blueberry dahlia, and an apple and blackberry tulip.

Details: £29.95 per person or £39.95 including a FLOWERBX Fizz or a glass of Champagne.

English Country Garden Tea at 108 Brasserie

108 Brasserie in Marylebone is embracing the new season with an afternoon tea inspired by the quintessential English country garden. After a glass of English sparkling wine, guests will enjoy savouries like smoked salmon with Guinness brown bread, coronation chicken tartlet, and Dorset crab with compressed watermelon. The sweet treats have delicate floral flavours, from the lavender panna cotta to the scones flavoured with poppy seeds and orange blossom.

Details: Served in the 108 Pantry. £32 per person or £42 including a glass of English sparkling wine.
