Swine dining: 7 bacon dishes to try in London

Food trends may come and go, but our love for bacon endures. Let’s face it, when you wake up hungry or a bit hungover, avocado on toast just can’t compete with a freshly fried rasher. We’ve rounded up some of London’s best ways to eat bacon – how many have you tried?

St. John Bread and Wine – Bacon sandwich
Fergus Henderson’s Spitalfields restaurant takes the humble bacon sarnie to dizzy new heights. Picture this – rashers of smoky rare breed bacon sandwiched between slices of homemade white bread that has been lightly chargrilled and buttered. Served with their tangy homemade ketchup, it’s a strong contender for the best bacon sandwich in town.

Burger & Beyond – Bacon Butter Burger
London’s appetite for burgers showed no signs of slowing down this year and Burger & Beyond serve some of the best in town. Their BBB is a thing of beauty – a 60-day aged beef patty topped with double American cheese, crispy pancetta, and burnt butter mayo. It’s messy, more than a little indulgent, but the quality of their beef shines through. Try it for yourself at their Shoreditch restaurant, at Street Feast or Camden Market, or their residency at Camden Assembly.

Le Swine – Bacon butty
Once you’ve tried Le Swine’s legendary bacon butty, you’ll never settle for a second-rate sarnie again. Their food truck is parked up at Spitalfields Market from Monday to Friday – perfect for a grab-and-go breakfast or an emergency hangover cure on your way to work. Their ingredients are first class, from the sustainably sourced free-range pork to the lightly toasted milk bun and their signature mushroom ketchup. Just don’t let that duck egg drip down your shirt…

The Wolseley – Pancakes with bacon
Breakfast at The Wolseley – who could resist? Even the fussiest of dining companions will be won over by the grand Art Deco interiors and the flawless service. Everything on the breakfast menu is delicious but we can rarely resist their pancakes – light and fluffy, drizzled with syrup, and topped with crispy bacon.

Dishoom – Bacon naan
A predictable choice? Possibly. Still one of London’s finest breakfast options? Absolutely! Each naan is baked to order in a tandoor oven, smeared with cream cheese and chilli tomato jam, then stuffed with fresh herbs and smoked streaky bacon. Add a fried egg or a side of masala beans, if you like – there are no bad decisions here.

Duck & Waffle Local – Bacon wrapped dates
They might not be the most photogenic dish on the Duck & Waffle menu, but once you try them you’ll wish you’d ordered two portions. The dates are butterflied and stuffed with linguiça sausage, cream cheese and manchego, then wrapped in bacon and fried until they’re golden brown and crispy. Try them at the top of the Heron Tower or at their all-day restaurant near Piccadilly Circus.

The Jones Family Project – Mac ‘n’ cheese with bacon
This buzzy Shoreditch restaurant is best known for its dry aged steaks, but we’ve got a bit of a soft spot for their truffled mac ‘n’ cheese. If it doesn’t sound indulgent enough already, you can add Ginger Pig bacon for an extra £2 – and why wouldn’t you?
