5 Wimbledon-inspired cocktails to try this week

Whether you’re a tennis fan or just can’t resist a good cocktail, here are five Wimbledon-inspired cocktails to try in London.

Wimbledon Summer Cup at Bread Street Kitchen

Discover The Allotment – a summer pop-up at Gordon Ramsay’s City restaurant, complete with fruit trees, growing herbs, and a big screen showing all the Wimbledon action. The menu is inspired by British garden and allotment produce, so expect dishes like chilled pea and mint soup, English garden salad, and gin and tonic sorbet. There are suitably summery cocktails too, like the tequila-based Mint Paloma and a Garden Spritz made with watercress and pea infused gin. Don’t leave without trying the Wimbledon Summer Cup – a fresh and fruity mix of Grey Goose vodka, summer cup, Earl Grey, lemon, peach purée, and passion fruit.

Fred Perry at GNH Bar

If you’re passing through King’s Cross this week, be sure to stop off at the Great Northern Hotel for a drink or two. Inspired by the British tennis legend, the GNH Bar is serving the Fred Perry – a mix of gin, cucumber, lemon and basil with sweet vanilla, strawberry and elderflower, finished with pepper cream. There are bar bites and an all-day menu on offer if you’re hungry, or you can book a table at the hotel’s excellent British restaurant, Plum + Spilt Milk.

Murray-tini at Kensington Place

After a stroll around Kensington Gardens, why not treat yourself to a bite to eat at Kensington Place? Their menu has a strong fish and seafood focus, so expect dishes like Shetland mussels marinière, fish pie, and simply grilled lemon sole. If you visit this week, you can also enjoy a Murray-tini made with Belvedere vodka and Cointreau with lemon juice, honeydew melon, Angostura bitters and mint. It’s the perfect way to toast the tennis.

The Perfect Serve (and more) at May Fair Bar

At the May Fair Hotel, there are five Wimbledon-inspired cocktails to choose from, from the Pimms-based Perfect Serve to the strawberry flavoured Centre Court. Our personal favourite is the Tea Time – an elegant tipple made with Bombay Sapphire gin, peach purée, lemon juice, sugar syrup and Assam tea. The bar serves delicious bar snacks – think Wagyu sliders and crispy calamari – but if you’re hungry for more, book a table at the hotel’s Mediterranean restaurant, May Fair Kitchen.

Strawberries & Crème at The Refinery Bankside

To celebrate the British tennis season, The Refinery’s terrace has been transformed with colourful deckchairs, giant screens and a pop-up bar. Kick back and enjoy their limited edition Strawberries & Crème cocktail – a pretty pink tipple made with Tanqueray gin, crème de fraise, lemon juice, egg white and fresh strawberries. If you’re more of a beer lover, the pop-up Peroni bar is serving Peroni Ambra – a blend of Peroni Nastro Azzurro and chinotto (an Italian citrus fruit) served over ice with an orange twist. If you’re feeling peckish, the all-day menu offers sharing boards, burgers, seasonal salads and more.
