Close on the heels of the National Restaurant Awards, another major awards body just named its winners – this time on a global stage. The eagerly awaited World’s 50 Best Restaurants were announced in Valencia, Spain on June 20. Central, the famed Lima restaurant that celebrates Peruvian ingredients, emerged on top, further cementing the city’s reputation as a bonafide global culinary destination.
New additions to the list this year include modern Thai Bangkok restaurant Le Du, Central’s sister restaurant Kjolle (also in Lima), and Plénitude, one of the hottest openings in Paris in recent years. These awards function as a major tourism boost with travellers often making reservations months in advance at restaurants even before they’ve booked flights.
A recent rule change at The World’s 50 Best organization prevents restaurants from taking the top place twice, which means diners have a brand new winner to look forward to each year.
Read on for the full list of winners, including the restaurants that ranked 51-100 on the list, along with a host of special awards, including the Highest New Entry Award.
