The Nichols brothers, Matt & Jeff, grew up in Ames, Iowa where their love of cooking, good food and a sense of family and community was nurtured.

The 2013 opening of their second Santa Barbara Wine Country restaurant, Brothers Restaurant at the Red Barn in Santa Ynez, allows them to offer visitors and locals alike great food, wine and hospitality. The brothers strive to have legendary service, innovative cuisine, and a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere that causes you to return time and again.

As chefs, the brothers continue to experiment with new dishes and cuisine, but always with that “from scratch”, homemade element. Fresh ingredients from local producers, a wine list that showcases the region’s award-winning wines and a comfortable and historically interesting atmosphere that takes you back to the romance of the old west. They want you to feel at home, and experience all the best of Santa Barbara’s Wine Country.

    Delicious food, nice selection on the menu. Wine selection was good, but could add more wine by the glass options. The French onion soup was delightful. A bit loud to carry on conversations, but there were Christmas parties going on and people enjoying themselves. Service as great

    The service is always outstanding. The drinks are spectacular. It can be a bit noisy, but with the quality of food, and of course the company you keep, it’s lost on everything else. The filet mignon and pork chop were beyond delicious!

    Food and service were stellar, as usual. Our server, Matt, is always attentive and the Scallops, pork chop and the best French onion soup outside of Thomas Keller’s. Highly recommend Red Barn. Never disappoints.

    The food was good and the service was excellent. My only complaint is this: The website menu shows the main entree choices, then also shows several burger/sandwich options that are more reasonable in cost. However, the menu that was presented to us when we dined on Sunday evening did not display the burger/sandwich options. I suppose we could have asked if the lower priced items were available, but it felt somewhat awkward to do this. We might have chosen the main entree food anyway. However, not seeing the less costly items on the dinner menu that was handed to us felt a little like a "bait-and-switch" situation. If those items are not available during certain times, that information should be clearly indicated on the restaurant's website.

    Hello John, We are so glad that you enjoyed yourself while dining with us earlier this month. We apologize that you felt awkward asking for our burger/sandwich menu, next time please be bold and ask us, we would not hesitate to bring you a copy of that particular menu. Our standard practice is to present the burger menu automatically in our high top bar section or by request in the dining room or patio. We hope that you are able to join us again and are able to try our amazing burgers and fried chicken sandwich, they are well worth the experience. Cheers to a Prosperous New Year!
