Our reservation was for 430. We were finally seated at 545. There was no place to wait except in the freezing cold coat room because the bar and lobby were filled with customers who were also waiting to be seated. They had obviously overbooked. My husband had the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. He said it was good, but the portion was very small. I had the prime rib. The portion was much larger with my meal. It was very good. Overall, the experience wasn’t worth what we paid and I would not go back for a holiday meal again.

Firstly, I need to say that we went here for Thanksgiving. I can only judge the meal from there and also because they were doing a set type of menu and they were turning out quite a few plates. This may have had an impact. I’m also very appreciative that they had a vegetarian option. I think in general, the food was fine and probably better than other set menus, but it was expensive for what was delivered and our meal was only lukewarm. I had the squash dish and my mom had the turkey dinner and the gravy was set on the turkey at the time it was delivered. The ambience is lovely and the staff were fantastic. I would definitely try this again when it isn’t a holiday. I know people really love this for Thanksgiving so it may just have been a one off

We got to Wells late and they squeezed us in for dinner right before the kitchen closed. The food was so delicious, particularly the prime rib and Caesar salad. Even dessert (crème brûlée) was phenomenal. Our server was the sweetest and everyone was very welcoming and friendly even though we were one of the last guests there. We basically begged to come back for thanksgiving dinner! Highly recommend and definitely will be back!

I did not voice this as my older Mom was there and did not want to have her experience be diminished. My Pork dish was so salty almost inedible. Sauce was worse. Overcooked pork. Undercooked baked beans. Portion of green beans was exactly (6) total. My Moms fish was supposedly “baked” but was like fish and chips. Called light attention to the server and instead of how to make it better she corrected me and walked away. It was so dry I actually had to come up with a solution since you don’t have tartar sauce for what should have been Haddock in a ramekin with breadcrumbs. My chicken wing appetizer again dry and tasteless but the sauce was good (which I asked for the fish and it made it better) and the apple slaw was the only this that was in any way at the level I expect from Clay Hill. That was great. Two had the prime rib which was great but you didn’t serve “fingerling” potatoes. Instead they were small new potatoes that were just boiled and put on the plate again with (6) green beans (so it must be your policy in portions). Also potatoes were a bit hard. Best part of the night was your piano player. She kept me calm with an array of showtunes that helped me feel better that at least I was getting great ambiance and entertainment for this very very overpriced bad meal. It pains me to give this review. Have gone to Clay Hill many many times but not for about 6 months. I am hoping this was just a bad night vs a trend and will give it one more chance. If I wasn’t a semi regular customer, I would not go back. My portion of the bill with tip was rounded $225 for three and none of us drank any booze. Get your veggie portions more fair; stop charging an up charge for a $36-45 meal to substitute starch. It’s cheap. More the principal than the cost. I went to Longhorns the night before where I had great meal with steak; good veggie portions; and chicken wings at half the cost. Hoping if we go again it is reliable and great as it once was.
