The staff here are super friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable about the workings of the restaurant. They were able to accommodate physical needs (ie a walker or cane), and are proactive about it. They are also perfectly willing to offer items that suit those with food sensitivities (allergies, conditions). Always a top shelf experience here! As a side note, this restaurant can get very busy. If you use any kind of hearing technology (hearing aid, CI), it will be difficult to hear due to the open concept style of building. The sound bounces around readily. A unique and elegantly designed space with an atmosphere that takes you back to the 50's, paired with warm service and delicious food. We started with the challah service, which is baked daily and served with a delicious housemade jam that apparently changes with the seasons. After that, a few noshes; the fresh house salad tossed with bulgar and champagne vinegraite, king salmon served with crispy potato latkes, and the unexpectedly delightful kasha bows pasta, which was complimented perfectly by the addition of truffles. For our mains, we enjoyed a combination of perfectly cooked hanger steak, mushroom crepe, and the crunchiest fries on ossington. The cabbage with beemster cheese was also *chefs kiss* 👌 Our server Vanessa and the whole team was very friendly, and we can't wait to come back. PS. My mother has mobility issues and had to climb 2 flights of stairs to go to the restroom. We had a lovely cozy booth upstairs and so many of the staff came by to say happy birthday. It was lovely! She felt very special! She has dined all over the world at the top steakhouses. She rated Hys right up there with the best she has tried. And mom loved the bananas foster-hardly any places do this anymore and it was fantastic. Thank you Hys for making birthday 12 so special!
