It’s Personal at Petronella. We are a relaxed, informal restaurant situated on romantic Butterslip Lane. Petronella is charming, situated over two floors, in one of Kilkenny's oldest and historic buildings - we focus on wonderful Irish food and service - seasonal, delicious, yet joyously casual dining. The restaurant pays homage to Petronella de Meath, the first woman to be burned at the stake, just meters away from our restaurant 700 years ago. We hope you love Petronella as much as we do.

The restaurant pays homage to Petronella, the first woman accused of witchcraft in Ireland and the first woman in Europe to be executed by burning at the stake. When you leave our restaurant, take a few steps around the corner to the site of Kilkenny town hall, where Petronella met her tragic fate.

The venue is beautiful with a lovely ambience. The staff were friendly, professional and diligent and the food and drinks were excellent. Overall it was an enjoyable evening and I will recommend my people to dine at Petronella.

This is such a lovely venue for Afternoon tea. The staff were so attentive, the food was such a treat and presented in such a way that it was a shame to eat it (it looked so good). It was a lovely calm experience while the madness of pre-Christmas goes on outside. A real escape and a real treat. Thank you.

Food and service was fantastic, we were lucky enough to be there on a night Kiera was playing, she was fantastic and set the tone beautifully for the restaurant. It was overall a great night and I would highly recommend.

Delicious food & great service! We were a table of 7 and each ordered something different - everyone was delighted with their food. I got a roast sharing platter with 1 other person - a good appetite is needed to finish this one, but everything in the dish was spectacular!

Opened under new ownership in December 2023, we are located adjacent to our existing Roundwood Stores bakery and artisan food store. Come and enjoy good food, wine, craft beer, and log fires in the beautifully restored 1820’s Coach House.
The pub is open midday until late, Thursday to Sunday, for walk-ins and reservations.
The menu is slightly more casual (as are some of the tables) but the room is cozy and the experience the same.
The restaurant is open midday for lunch and 5pm for dinner, walk-ins or reservations available.

The food was very good, the meats were cooked exactly the way we liked and the portions were very satisfying. we made a reservation for the anniversary celebration and after the meal they made a very nice gesture and offered us dessert and wine, we were both very surprised and very happy. we were very satisfied and we recommend it. thank you for the friendly and wonderful service.
