One of the world’s most laid-back, bohemian towns, Portland Oregon is famous for craft beer, cheap food, beautiful forests and much, much more. The Willamette River cuts through the center of town and both banks fill up with bikers, musicians, artists and food trucks galore. The downtown area features great music venues like the Crystal Ballroom, tourists flock to fantastic attractions like the Columbia River Gorge and the iconic Saturday Market and the neighborhoods are eclectic and unique. Overall, the city is incredibly easy to fall in love with. And, it’s no secret that the nightlife here is one of the main attractions. If you’re looking for a cool place to meet friends, we’ve got you covered with our Tastemaker List of the best bars in Portland.

I have been wanting to have dinner here for a long time, but somehow it was always off my radar. When I did a search for a steak dinner near me, there it was! My opportunity finally arrived. The Stockpot Broiler has always received very high marks from my friends AND online. I’m finally going to find out for myself. My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary (as we always do by going to several restaurants during November). The ambience upon entering Stockpot was very nice, clean and inviting. The two women that greeted us were extremely friendly and inviting and wished us a Happy Anniversary. They sat us right next to the Christmas tree that they had set up…a very nice touch! Our service person was Sharon who said that she has worked there for 32 years!!! She clearly knew her way around the menu and wine list and she was wonderful…complete with historic stories of crazy guest experiences she has witnessed during her tenure. All the dished looked fabulous and I had some real decision making to do to figure out which I would like best. The wine menu was exceedingly reasonably priced which was a pleasant addition to our experience. We started with Caesar salad that we shared and it was very, very good. We also shared a bowl of French onion soup. I love a great French onion soup and this did not disappoint!. Yummm. I ordered the rib eye…Sharon told me that she had petitioned the owner decades ago to put it on the menu! Of course I ordered it medium rare and it was mouthwateringly delicious. It came with delicious mashed potatoes and baby green beans. My wife ordered the lamb shank which was prepared beautifully on polenta and was perfectly tender…falling off the bone. We both shared a bottle of Chianti Classico Reserva which was delicious. The entire bill was very reasonable, significantly less than many other places that we could have eaten…and the food and experience was top notch. A++

From start to finish, everything exceeded expectations. The food was exceptional—each dish was a perfect blend of flavors, beautifully presented, and made with the freshest ingredients. The service was impeccable; the staff was attentive, warm, and genuinely eager to ensure a memorable experience. And to top it off, the view from the restaurant was stunning—overlooking a breathtaking cityscape that made the meal even more special. This five-star dining experience was truly a highlight of my holiday, and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!
