I would like to say that this was a review of a visit to the restaurant but after booking it as a treat for my wife on New Year's Eve we arrived in London after travelling for 1.5 hours to find it shut. I made a complaint to Open Table as they had confirmed the booking, twice, but they wanted to leave the blame with El Gaucho for not telling them. I wrote directly to the Director of the company that runs both restaurants but he could not be bothered to reply. Open Table's apology amounted to making my points up to enough for £20 off my next booking. Very disappointing all round.

Very good first impression on this first visit to El Gaucho; both the food and the service were excellent.

Me and my wife are both steak lovers and El Gaucho did not disappoint. Besides the steaks being excellent, cheaper than Gaucho Grill and the starters were something different but very tasty. The service was excellent, attentive when needed, and the ambience of the restaurant was very relaxed and cosy.

The service was excellent, sadly not many wine options to coose from and although food was good it was less than i expected as previous reviews had rated it so highly. Overall nice night.

This is all about carnivores. Steaks ( which are the main staple) are very good. Just about everything else is standard, including the service. The place is quite quirky and out of the way in a curious basement. Not bad, but not really outstanding. Do not confuse this with "Gaucho" restaurants which are a top league of their own. (Even if this one might have been the original, they are unrelated). In summary a nice piece of meat in a city where it is hard to get a decent steak ( stay away from CAU and those chains, they are hideous), but don't get your hopes too high.

We were the first in so maybe we didn't see it at it's best, food was good but to be fair couldn't really say much about the rest.

We were recommended to come here for a great steak before our evening at The Royal Albert Hall, which is an easy 15 minute walk away. The food was great and the menu was varied - but only for a meat eater! The staff were friendly and the service good. Would recommend it as a pre dinner venue for the Albert Hall
