Best Family Style Restaurants in University City/Golden Triangle

What amazing date spot. We love Tara Monsod’s Animae and her unique come packaged in an exciting new way. Maybe best gnocci we have ever had!

Man, I noticed a few bad reviews for this place but we totally disagree. This is a cool, smaller restaurant attached to the Hotel Valencia. It has a nice u-shaped bar with what seemed to be mostly locals hanging out talking with the staff. Upscale vibe but not "stuffy" La Jolla vibe. The cocktails were amazing and fairly creative. We also thought the food was excellent, contrary to what a few other folks have said. The braised short rib Mao, crispy pumpkin squash, and twinkie ceaser were the standouts. Only minor downsides were that you can smell the seals a little bit and it was a bit chilly inside, as the door was kept open. Overall we really enjoyed our experience.

Wonderful gem of a restaurant in UTC, a mall that has been transformed into a foodie paradise. From the moment we walked in for the first visit, we were treated as returning family. Service was exceptional! We started with the Calabrian mussels which were absolutely perfect. We tried the Cacio e Peppe with shaved truffles, Lobster Fra diavlo (one of the night’s specials), spicy rigatoni and Carbonara. None disappointed and the pasta was clearly all freshly made. Ending with limoncello really put the cherry on top of a fabulous evening. The restaurant space is beautiful and big, music was perfect and set the stage for a fun night. We will definitely be back to try other offerings.

Amazing food, service and ambiance. Authentic pasta, one of the best steaks I have ever had, and great wine. Also, our server was incredible.

First time at Pacific Catch. Very good, enjoyed our date night.
