This wonderful inn is located in the centre of the pretty little village of Pooley Bridge, only moments from the edge of Ullswater Lake. Our spacious, traditional bar features open fires, free WIFI and a relaxing ambiance, which welcomes both dogs and children. MONDAY & TUESDAY is 2 courses for £25 p/personWEDNESDAY is Pie and Burger nightTHURSDAY to SUNDAY is our locally sourced main monthly menu. We’re a 17th century dog friendly coaching inn run by husband and wife team Tom and Claire. There isn’t a straight line in the place and we’ve kept the old character of the pub while injecting some more contemporary charm of our own. Our monthly menu showcases the best the local area has to offer featuring things like hogget reared in the village and wild garlic picked from local woodland. Our bar is stocked with locally brewed hand pulled ales, a wide variety of spirits and a good selection on tap with bar snacks alongside at the weekend. New for this year we now have a beautiful outdoor seating and dining area where you can catch the afternoon and early evening sun while trying to spot every one of Tom’s 32 fish (they’re not on the menu though!)

“Tucked away in a cozy corner of The Royal Pub it offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. The rustic decor and friendly chatter create the perfect setting “The staff were attentive and approachable, ensuring we felt welcome from the moment we walked in. Our server, was knowledgeable and quick to make recommendations “The star of our meal was the classic Royal Burger. It's a hearty burger, packed with flavour. “we had no room for dessert"! “The pub boasts an impressive array of craft beers and ales. Also speciality coffee's. We had a 'Baileys Latte'. Would definatley. Recommend this “For the quality and portions, the prices were reasonable. It’s a great spot for a meal that doesn’t break the bank.” To Sum it up “Whether you’re after a hearty meal or a casual drink with friends, The Royal delivers on all fronts. It’s a gem worth revisiting.”

First visit for many years. Welcoming staff!, lovely decor. I should have checked beforehand that the Christmas menu was available, completely my own fault! However having said this, the food that we ordered was excellent!! The ambiance could have been better, however that was only because they were not many other diners. We will definitely be back to try out other dishes!!

Festive roast beef for two was excellent. Christmas pudding with sauce was very good. The trifle would have been better avoided. The topping was cream with pink sprinkles better suited to a children’s menu. The cream had a synthetic taste. The next layer was a rubbery red jelly. The base was a large amount of very dry sponge cake. I suspect it hadn’t seen a teaspoonful of sherry let alone the large quantity the menu suggested it would have. I declined to pay for this dessert. We would however return to the Cross Keys for another main course.
