Modern Asian American Restaurant from Chefs Peter Lee & Felicia Medina. "Consider the bao. Chinese in origin, it’s most easily described as a steamed bun filled with something savory. Yet, like the American concept of a sandwich, the bao exploded into a flexible format of untold bounds — served at any meal, filled with you-name-it, completely closed or wide open, with endless regional variants from across Asia and far beyond." - Matt Kettmann (SB Independent)1 Block From State Street, Easy Parking, Public Lot Nearby, Free 75 Minute Parking, Walking Distance, El Pueblo Viejo Landmark District, Superior Court, Spanish Colonial Revival Courthouse, Santa Barbara Museum Of Art, Courthouse Gardens, Bell Tower, Bao, Food, Restaurant, Asian, American, New, Modern, Fried, Chicken, Octopus, Vegan, Vegetarian, Paelo, Friendly, Dog Friendly, Outdoor Patio, Heaters, Warm, Inviting, Hospitable, Modern Design

It strays from the standard or traditional Italian, sourcing inspiration from many other cultures’ cooking but its soul is thoroughly Italian. The ever-changing menu includes small plates, housemade pasta, wood-fired pizza, rotisserie chicken, fresh seafood and steaks served family-style. McNee’s all-star supplier network provides the freshest produce and local seafood the region is famous for. Food and service was great - highly recommend the prime rib special (Sundays), deviled eggs, Caesar salad, and catch of the day (Snapper). Super tasty food and attentive service. We sat at the communal table at the bar since we had a dog with us and it was too cold to sit outside.

This was our first visit and we were blown away with the service and the atmosphere. I can’t believe the flavors of everything we ate. So much so that we reordered a couple of dishes. Our server RJ was on his game. We will be back….

We came for the 3-course Apero dinner. We added the marrow bone, which was amazing! My only complaint was that the stroganoff was too salty. The flavors were great, otherwise.

I have always loved Roy restaurant as my family has been going there for many years. You know the food has to be good as the restaurant is still going since 1993. Roy gets his produce from the farmers market and prepares them so well. I bet his restaurant has lasted so long because he is there cooking in the kitchen. He provides a good variety of food from steak to seafood to Italian dishes. I love the potato cakes, he makes great purée soups, and yummy deserts. I went there for Thanksgiving dinner the place was full, the waitress was personable and we had a great meal and Roy made incredible cranberries. You can’t go wrong with whatever you order.

The Caesar Salad was fresh and the dressing was a tasty surprise. The Veal Milanese breading was crispy and paired nicely with the buttery, cheesy fettuccine. My friends both enjoyed their Spinach Ravioli and Pappardelle Vodka. Topped it off with us all sharing the Warm Lava Cake...delish!
