We are not an authentic ramen shop, though we value the history of ramen, and our ramen is influenced by its past and its future potential. The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect. Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag. The food is excellent. We were with another couple and ordered the cauliflower, zucchini pancakes, baked clams, tortellachi, brandzino and duck. Everything was delicious. Our server was very attentive & brought two samples of wine to taste. It was an extremely cold night & the tables near the door are drafty. Avoid if possible. Also no valet parking so plan to look for parking in the neighborhood.

Great experience. We started with the bite size apps: delicious. We then had the oysters: outstanding. Next was the Caesar for two: not my favorite. Too much lemon and way too much anchovies. Next time I would definitely ask for very little lemon and no anchovies or maybe one smashed in the dressing. We ordered filet mignon with the mushrooms and mashed potatoes- outstanding! Great service from Rory, thank you!

Service is always impeccable and quick. On this visit, we were provided a complimentary taste of an umeboshi digestif and a N/A Arnold Palmer-type digestif. That made this visit extra special. December special was especially delicious!
