The food was very good and the waiting staff were impeccable. However we were placed on an awful table near the entrance and felt like we were not actually in the restaurant (Grand Cafe). It was cold, drafty and dark. Having booked a month in advance as a Christmas treat we expected to be in the main dining area with a view of the tree at least. We should have complained at the time. Lesson learned so if you book make sure you are in the main dining area.

We had a bad experience here yesterday. I needed to book somewhere near Kings Cross station at 10am for my 10 colleagues to meet on our Christmas team day. When we arrived we were told very brusquely that we couldn't have the table I'd booked unless we ate breakfast but that we couldn't sit upstairs in the coffee area if we wanted any food. Our plan had been to have pastries and coffee for an hour and I'd checked a month in advance at the front desk that it was ok. This didn't seem to be an option here on the day however with the staff in charge yesterday - pastries didn't count as breakfast. I couldn't believe how we were spoken to by the staff. They moved us upstairs to a shabby row of tables, one of which was wobbling and broken and which we had to move ourselves. Pret would have been more welcoming. Having begrudgingly said we could have pastries upstairs they then said they had run out of them. When I told the waiter we'd leave and get something from the market outside the restaurant instead they rustled some up. It was one of the most bizarre experiences I've had in a London restaurant. As the organiser it was humiliating. Zero customer service from the team downstairs. I wouldn't go there again. However a thank you to Toheeb, our waiter upstairs, for being charming and trying hard to rescue a very awkward atmosphere.

Unfortunately the table we were given seemed to be in a bit of a black hole to the wait staff. I had to request the menus twice, get waiting nearly 30 minutes, and similarly found it difficult to attract their attention subsequently. Food was excellent as I’ve found previously, which is why I returned.

One of the more spacious restaurants in London. It feels even more airy with the huge windows and high ceilings. The food was great!

Food was superb, varied and hearty. I've never seen my boyfriend in such ecstasies over a dish (Herring Hausfrauern Art (homemade). Our waiters were all attentive, intelligent, engaging and informed and either were really well trained or just born that way! Atmosphere was lively, but not loud. It felt like we were dining in a much more expensive restaurant.

Very nice German food. Great Weißwürste and Apfelstrudel. Buzzy atmosphere (and you need to book to be sure of getting a table during peak hours) although verging on the too noisy.

A good fun venue, totally different, good food if you enjoy German cuisine, good service, wine is in small measures and a little pricey.
