Booked for breakfast at 11am. Food excellent. Nice Christmassy space. But coffee took ages to arrive. Apparently only one working coffee machine. And in spite of booking confirmation saying tables allotted for 90 minutes, and we arrived on time, we were asked to move to the bar after less than 60 minutes. No warning on arrival that they would need the table back at noon. And then it took a while to get a drink. The drink was nice and the bar was fine. And it was very busy.

It was a birthday celebration for my partner, we met only the two of us. The design and ambient lighting were amazing! It’s one of the most beautiful pieces in London I think. We both like German cousine having spent a large parr of our lives there so it was great to have Spaetzle and more traditional meals. At the end we were surprised with a beautiful cake with a candle and wishes! I can definitely recommend this place for birthday celebrations. Lovely place. One think maybe on a slightly negative side, I feel like it is a bit loud, for me it was nice to hear other people but my partner complained a bit as it was not very easy to talk without raising our voices. Otherwise all was fantastic!

An unbelievable experience!! The restaurant was full and atmosphere amazing but what made the experience was that a couple of things went wrong when the food arrived it was colder than it should have been. However the response of both the waitress and the manager was outstanding. They both apologised and immediately sprang into action to put things right. The cold food was replaced and it genuinely felt like they cared about our meal and our experience. I was blown away and can’t recommend the restaurant highly enough. Having worked in customer service myself I know how difficult it is to get these things right. Thank you and well done.

It is a lovely building and the food was really lovely. The wine was also really nice. The only downside was the service. Our waiter found it hard to even break into half a smile and when our dinner arrived he was assisted by a lady who literally couldn’t even bear to make eye contact or make any facial expression. It was unbelievable. There was a guy in a suit who served our table for a short time who was a delight and really did go out of his way however the other waiter came back later and it took everything for him to smile as we paid. It must have been harder for him to keep such a miserable face than actually interact. Anyway food and drinks lovely but seriously the service could be improved.

The food was very good and the waiting staff were impeccable. However we were placed on an awful table near the entrance and felt like we were not actually in the restaurant (Grand Cafe). It was cold, drafty and dark. Having booked a month in advance as a Christmas treat we expected to be in the main dining area with a view of the tree at least. We should have complained at the time. Lesson learned so if you book make sure you are in the main dining area.

We had a bad experience here yesterday. I needed to book somewhere near Kings Cross station at 10am for my 10 colleagues to meet on our Christmas team day. When we arrived we were told very brusquely that we couldn't have the table I'd booked unless we ate breakfast but that we couldn't sit upstairs in the coffee area if we wanted any food. Our plan had been to have pastries and coffee for an hour and I'd checked a month in advance at the front desk that it was ok. This didn't seem to be an option here on the day however with the staff in charge yesterday - pastries didn't count as breakfast. I couldn't believe how we were spoken to by the staff. They moved us upstairs to a shabby row of tables, one of which was wobbling and broken and which we had to move ourselves. Pret would have been more welcoming. Having begrudgingly said we could have pastries upstairs they then said they had run out of them. When I told the waiter we'd leave and get something from the market outside the restaurant instead they rustled some up. It was one of the most bizarre experiences I've had in a London restaurant. As the organiser it was humiliating. Zero customer service from the team downstairs. I wouldn't go there again. However a thank you to Toheeb, our waiter upstairs, for being charming and trying hard to rescue a very awkward atmosphere.

Unfortunately the table we were given seemed to be in a bit of a black hole to the wait staff. I had to request the menus twice, get waiting nearly 30 minutes, and similarly found it difficult to attract their attention subsequently. Food was excellent as I’ve found previously, which is why I returned.
