Four of us enjoyed a most pleasant lunch at great value . There is a good choice and the service is swift the restaurant has a great location close to Calton Hill and inside there is plenty of space in a lovely old building

The food and the setting are fabulous. Great value at 2 courses for 10.95 lunch deal. Unfortunately we were made to feel rushed and unwelcome. The service otherwise was good, but the first thing we were told was that the kitchen was already closed and we would have to order quickly as they had remained open especially. We were 5 minutes late getting to our table, but they really shouldn't offer tables at 14.30 if the kitchen closes at 14.30. Even the most decisive group in the world can't be seated, read a menu and order within 0 seconds. If the kitchen closes at 14.30 the last table should be seated by 14.00 or 14.15 at latest. What if we had wanted desserts? We didn't dare ask! Normally love this place and wanted to show it off to visitors. Was so disappointed.

We had not finished our starter when the main course arrived. This meant we felt rushed. Also the lovely shortbread came with the bill. Why not with the coffee? The bill was wrong, but they corrected corrected it. However, the staff are always friendly.

We were in for Sunday lunch. The place was buzzing--- there were at least two very large birthday celebrations going on. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. The food was perfect and beautifully presented. An overall very pleasant experience . When the bill came we were amazed as it was so reasonable. I would recommend Howies to anyone. πŸ‘πŸ˜„

Second trip to Edinburgh this year, second trip to Howies. When we visited in March it was because she the menu sounded nice and we were staying close - loved it. Going back to Edinburgh Howies was the obvious choice and again weren't disappointed. The Haggis Neeps and Tatties were gorgeous and the Salmon for main course was delicious. Would definitely recommend and next time I'm in Edinburgh I will be going back 😊

Howies should not do pasta as it is not their speciality, it was terribly blant. Everything else we tried was outstanding.

On arrival we were made welcome, even though we were 20 minutes early. We sat in the reception area and enjoyed a drink. The table was ready on time. The food was excellent and enjoyed by our vegetarian son - which is not always the case. There was only one 'negative', if it can be referred to as that. We had an 8pm booking. Our table was situated towards the back of the restaurant and it was quite dark in that area so as it was difficult to see exactly what we were eating but this did not detract from the taste experience. We will definitely return when next in the area.

Lovely food but this time I felt we were being pushed a little and the lunch menu is much better value than evening. However, that said enjoyed the food and ambience

This was our 3rd visit to Howies and whist we enjoyed it this time we felt very rushed eating our pudding - the waitress even lifted our wine cooler whilst we were still seated and moved it outside !!

I've been to Howies many times and have always enjoyed the food . Everyone in the group enjoyed the food although I was a little disappointed with my lamb as it wasn't as flavoursome as I thought it should be and was quite expensive for what was on my plate. The sticky toffee pudding however was excellent as always.
