From the start, the ambiance, music, and staff were outstanding. The service was excellent, and the drinks were well-crafted, setting a great tone for the evening. However, the food was disappointing. We ordered the mussels, tenderloin, and swordfish, but every dish lacked flavor—even the sides. Something as simple as French fries was bland, which was both surprising and frustrating. For a $250 CAD bill, we expected a high-quality culinary experience, but the food simply didn’t live up to the standard. If you're looking for a place with great service, a nice atmosphere, and well-made drinks, The Velvet delivers. But if food is your top priority, you might want to explore other options.More infoThe Velvet Restaurant at The Josie HotelPrice: Expensive• American• Rossland•4
- MMarkCalgary / Southern Alberta •36 reviews4.0Dined 7 days agoHave eaten here a number of times in the past 5 years and they are certainly consistent. Good food and very good service. Menu items are creative but not over the top, and portions are generous. In winter it is a small space as the majority of their seating is on a huge patio which is obviously weather dependent. Many reviewers have mentioned pricing to which I would say this: first it's consistent with any resort hotel with the associated costs and obligations of operating in one. Second, there are perhaps four restaurants in Osoyoos that could be classified as fine dining and the Bear's pricing is fairly comparable. However, unlike two others the Bear is open every day, year round. BTW I don't work for the hotel - I just wanted to defend a favorite spot that I believe gets some unfair criticism!More infoThe Bear, The Fish, The Root & The BerryPrice: Expensive• Canadian• Osoyoos•4.6
