Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music. Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

A large selection of wines, cocktails and beers make MUA a great spot for an evening out with friends. After their first 2 restaurants, Pastoral in Berkeley (first opened in 1982 while still students, 37 in the architecture program at Cal and San-Ju painting at SFAI) then later Soizic (Jack London Square, 1996), they wanted to shift gears from heavily curated menus to more comfort-based fare catering more to the eclectic and artistic community in Oakland. Popoca is a Salvadoran-inspired restaurant in the heart of Oakland. Popoca means “to emit smoke” in Nawat, the language of native people of El Salvador who stoked wood fires to prepare food over a comal for their families. Revered as more than just a means of cooking, smoke represents a prayer or offering to the spirits.Popoca is a mix of heritage and play. Our food is driven by preserving past, creating something new and uniquely Oakland. After years of pop-ups, Popoca has its own digs in the Old Oakland neighborhood, where the pupusas, chicken with fermented pineapple sauce, and other Cali-Salvadoran specialties are happily devoured.

We had such an amazing time! We ordered the Dinner Party Menu, and it was a perfect mix of everything. All of the food was absolutely delicious, and we scraped every single plate. We also really enjoyed sitting at the bar, and Anthony, the bartender made us some fantastic drinks based on our preferences and what we were eating,

Happy Hour menu on the weekends?! YES please! Just the two of us, but couldn't resist over doing it, easy to do here. 3 apps: Brocoli fritters (delicately crisp, the best way to get a veggie in!) the Duck Liver pate (consistently great), and meatballs w/pesto (crisp, light, consistently good!). I'll definitely be trying to reproduce Brocoli. For pasta, the Casoncelli and Malfatti... both just sublime. Both so gently and thoughtfully prepared, you have to slow down and enjoy each bite and sip of wine. I don't see Malfatti outside of Napa much, and this one is excellent, be sure to get some. You'll be sorry if Chris changes things up. Just one secondi to split, the lamb shank... decadant, rich, melt in your mouth tender, with the tiny style cous cous perfectly sopping up the luxurious, dark sauce. Sampler plate for dessert and short espresso ended things... always a great night at Bellanico!

Who knew Oakland goes off like this? Incredible open space in what I assume is a converted warehouse. I sat upstairs, overlooking the main dining area, which was perfect. Really diverse crowd, fantastic set list by the DJ, great overall energy. Shared the Caesar salad to start, which frankly could have been half the size (it was two full romaine hearts) and the 1lb Ribeye with fries. Finished with the bread pudding. That was more than enough. Great service. Note that 20% gratuity is automatically added, which I was fine with, but just beware so you don't double-tip.

As usual Marzano's is a comfy, neighbor restaurant to go. We had an excellent time, the food came out quickly and because it was so good we ate much faster than planned. We actually didn't feel rushed, so if you are looking for a great neighborhood restaurant this is the one to visit.

Lots of great food + drink choices, so everyone's happy. The service was fabulous. A bit on the noisy side, but we would definitely go here again.
