A Bittersweet Experience at The Velvet We chose The Velvet to celebrate our anniversary, expecting a top-tier dining experience given the price and reputation of the place. From the start, the ambiance, music, and staff were outstanding. The service was excellent, and the drinks were well-crafted, setting a great tone for the evening. However, the food was disappointing. We ordered the mussels, tenderloin, and swordfish, but every dish lacked flavor—even the sides. Something as simple as French fries was bland, which was both surprising and frustrating. For a $250 CAD bill, we expected a high-quality culinary experience, but the food simply didn’t live up to the standard. If you're looking for a place with great service, a nice atmosphere, and well-made drinks, The Velvet delivers. But if food is your top priority, you might want to explore other options.

A well thought out three course meal with excellent choices to satisfy most diets. Excellent service and great owners make this a wonderful choice for a special night out on the mountain.

All food ordered was excellent. Wine list could be a little more extensive. Server was excellent.

We both had the duck/rigatoni and we were really impressed with the dish. A real nice mix of shredded duck within the dish which included small onions/leeks and pasta cooked perfectly topped with lots of parm. Really tasty. Our server, Nick, was great. He knew it was our anniversary from the on-line booking and asked if we would like a little complimentary bubbly to start. As he is a sommelier, he described the bubbly and its detail upon delivery. The menu isn't too elaborate but there certainly were enough choices for us. We've often had the Woods burger which is always good but we were both happy we tried something new. The room(s) can be noisy so I wouldn't expect a quiet romantic dinner out but the restaurant has a warm vibe befitting the ski hill backdrop. We go to the Woods in the summer after a hike and during a ski week and it never disappoints.
