Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Our extensive, Oregon-focused wine list has been awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. Built in 1857, the house is Dayton's oldest standing structure. When weather permits, guests can enjoy their dinner on our outdoor patio, soaking in the last rays of sunshine in the heart of Oregon Wine Country.

Wow! First the hostess graciously accommodated our arrival glitch. Then CJ and the food prep crew did a wonderful job preparing and serving our meal. Everything was truly world-class from the oil and aged vinegar served with the focaccia, to the home-made ginger beer, to the fresh vegetables and mozzarella in the Caprese salad, and the AMAZING short ribs and pasta. Wonderful food meets warm, capable service, it’s the perfect pairing! Thank you!

Ordered the special for that night and the risotto was the best I have ever had. Good wine selection. Wonderful service. Vegetables cooked lightly and very flavorful. Wonderful dessert. Quaint setting in an older home. If you sit in the back room, it can be a little noisy as they do a huge take out business and that is the pick up area.

Excellent as always. We asked to be served quickly as we were running late to a wine tasting, and they accommodated us beautifully— food came super quick, so we had time to enjoy it. Everything was delicious and the server was friendly and gracious. Our favorite spot in Willamette wine country!
