Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Our extensive, Oregon-focused wine list has been awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. Built in 1857, the house is Dayton's oldest standing structure. The food and drinks are always amazing at Rudy’s, but they were overbooked, so the service was not up to their standard and because they were overbooked we were put in the bar not making for a very intimate experience with our 33rd anniversary celebration. We still love Rudy’s and recommend it for large or small groups.

Really good food and nice ambience! I had the filet, which was delightful and my husband had the halibut, still quite good but a bit overpriced given what was provided. We sat at the bar and the bartender was fine, perhaps lacked some attentiveness but fine overall. Drinks were excellent and the restaurant is really cute. I will certainly be back, and I think the potential is there absolutely for a really fine dining establishment.

This is a very nice restaurant. Fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. One of our dishes arrived slightly overcooked, and they quickly replaced it with one cooked properly, and then comped the dish. The food is really good.
