Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Our extensive, Oregon-focused wine list has been awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. Built in 1857, the house is Dayton's oldest standing structure. When weather permits, guests can enjoy their dinner on our outdoor patio, soaking in the last rays of sunshine in the heart of Oregon Wine Country.

Our dining experience at ōkta farm and kitchen was wonderful. We were seated at a table with the perfect view of the open kitchen, which was beautiful. The service team was efficient, knowledgeable, and timed everything perfectly. The cocktails we ordered were excellent, the amuse-bouche was creative and tasty, and the four courses were delicious as well as beautifully plated. I had the charred escarole, the pacific crab, the pastured lamb, and the rhubarb sorbet. My husband had the field salad, the halibut, the wood-fired chicken, and the chocolate cake. Every course was prepared perfectly and we were surprised that the portion size for each course was substantial. We have experienced tasting menus that were truly ‘tastes’ and were quite small but this was not the case at ōkta farm and kitchen. The chocolate hazelnuts brought to us at the end of the meal were a fun final treat. Details such as the Zalto wine glasses designed to complement the specific wine we ordered and the beautifully simple Kimura water and cocktail glasses did not go unnoticed. We felt the evening was truly wonderful and would love to dine at ōkta farm and kitchen again.

A Culinary Gem in the Heart of McMinnville Dining at Hayward is an unforgettable experience that showcases the best of Oregon’s bounty. Chef Kari Shaughnessy and her talented team craft a menu that is both innovative and deeply rooted in the local terroir. Their dedication to sourcing hyper-seasonal ingredients from nearby farms ensures that each dish is fresh, flavorful, and reflective of the region’s richness. What truly sets Hayward apart is their masterful use of fermentation and preservation techniques. From house-made pickles to fermented cornbread with black pepper lardo and meyer lemon, the layers of flavor are both surprising and delightful. The menu is a living entity, constantly evolving to highlight the freshest ingredients and the chefs’ creative inspirations. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and warmth, making every visit feel special yet comfortable. Whether you’re indulging in their “Kickback” tasting menu or savoring a la carte offerings, each bite tells a story of passion, community, and culinary excellence. I’ve celebrated birthdays, weddings, friends and so much more here! Hayward is not just a restaurant; it’s a testament to what happens when local sourcing meets culinary artistry. A must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic and elevated dining experience in the Willamette Valley.
