The Black Bull Inn, Moffat is an independently owned, award winning Scottish hostelry, established 1568. The oldest hostelry in the area, the Inn is well known for its links to Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Poet who visited during his heyday. The Black Bull is also connected to another notable character from history – the controversial Earl (Bonnie) of Dundee, who commandeered the Black Bull as HQ in the 17th century and oversaw the persecution of Scottish Presbyterians from within its walls. With olde world ambience and atmosphere oozing out of its walls, the Black Bull is a welcoming, warm and interesting place to visit, with touches of traditional Scotland interwoven with contemporary twists and is everything an ancient Scottish hostelry should be. With great food, excellent wines, superb cask ales and beautifully styled rooms the inn never fails to charm both international and UK patrons and their pooches too.

We visited for the first time for my boyfriends 40th. It fell on a Wednesday so it was an easy option to book for the steak sharer option. The value was unquestionable before we even set foot through the door! £50 for 2 people to be fed and watered it incredible! Anyway, we arrived, all the staff were super friendly and welcoming. We were offered drinks almost immediately. Our server was lovely, offered above and beyond what we expected and gave good recommendations on options available whilst just having a wee chat. While we waited on our food to arrive we had some salt and vinegar popcorn to snack on....very moreish The atmosphere was so relaxed. Christmas tunes playing in the background and beautifully decorated too. Of course we were there for the food and were blown away with the value versus the quality. The steak was cooked to perfection 👌🏼 the mac and cheese was delish 😋 the chips were immense and the extra onion rings were possibly the best we have ever tasted 🤌🏼 Even though the birthday boy was feeling unwell he really enjoyed his evening and we can't wait to come back again. Will defo be recommending to family and friends and putting a gift voucher on the next gift wish list 😉

As ever, excellent food and excellent customer service. Love the ambience here. No pressure and relaxed whilst being attentive. I travel over an hour to get here and have introduced friends, who themselves have returned and spread the love! What a marvellous place. Whiskey gift shop (and other goodies) a must and staff in the gift shop so helpful and full of advice. Thank you.
