Our mission is simple: Have a simple menu that allows us to focus special attention to every ingredient that comes into our building. We choose and use the best quality ingredients possible. We do not believe in premade, mass produced food. We source locally grown or raised products whenever possible and use one of the cleanest natural burning resources to heat our ovens. At SLYCE less is more, as our fresh ingredients are delicately placed, not piled on, to create a perfectly balanced pie. Our dough is made in house daily, hand stretched to order, and baked next to a burning pile of coal giving it a thin, bubbly crust with charred edges and leopard spotting on the bottom. Chef and owner Joel Gilbert decided after years of searching for the perfect location that he was going to begin his journey with his first brick and mortar restaurant on the most Northern Point of Forest Lake, in Lake Zurich Illinois. After years of working and running restaurant establishments and working with his company Butter & biscuit Co. at local farmers markets, Joel has established great friendships and partnerships with some of the best local farmers. Joel took this opportunity to use the best seasonal products for his Italian inspired cuisine.     The food was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. The Christmas decor was festive. We had a great meal on Christmas Eve. We each had a sale to start with; my husband had the table side Caesar and I had a house salad. Both were fresh and delicious. For our mai meals, my husband had the cedar plank salmon. It was cooked exactly as he asked and the flavors were great. I had the miso glazed sea bass with black rice. The blend of flavors was tasty and delicious. For dessert, the Sticky toffee pudding is a must and it did not disappoint. Our server was Kevin. He was knowledgeable of the menu and very pleasant and attentive. We have dined at Region before and it was extremely special to be recognized by servers that have waited on us in the past. For a great meal with attentive service and comfortable surroundings, Region is a must.

    We came here for Christmas Eve and were seated promptly. Our waitress, Lauren, was very good. The food came out at reasonable times until dessert - we waited 45 minutes! Lauren apologized and said it was due to a backup in the kitchen . What I do not understand is that the menu was preset and the desserts should have been plated well in advance. When we left, we heard people complaining that they had reservations and were waiting for over 30 minutes past their reservation time. We enjoyed the atmosphere and food, but the service could have been better. We will definitely come back! I am sure with it being Christmas Eve, the kitchen was backlogged. Hopefully, they get things figured out for next year!

    Ema is an OUTSTANDING restaurant!! The venue, food, cocktails, and service are superb!! I am visiting friends and family from out of state for the Christmas holiday and selected Ema because of the foregoing reasons!! We will most definitely return!! Thank you!
