Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Except for our son’s shrimp and grits which he said were too salty our food was good. Through no fault of our waitress our entrees were very slow in coming. She said an order from a large table got in front of our order.

We went to Le Yaca to meet a couple of friends for dinner and it was a most enjoyable. The service was absolutely fantastic; attentive, friendly, courteous and professional. The food was impeccably prepared and we all relished every bite and morsel, from the salad, soup d’jour and French onion soup to the surf and turf preparation, the flounder entree and salmon entree, all delicious. And of course you couldn’t expect any less regarding the desserts, cocktails and wine selection. We cannot wait to return and enjoy!

The duck breast was excellent as was the squash salad. We had poached pear for dessert which was also excellent. Great selection of wines by the glass and the rum punch was very potent.

Great option for Christmas eve! Enjoyed a matinee movie and then dinner in the restaurant. Food was great, atmosphere perfect with nice Christmas music and the staff dressed in their ugly sweaters!
