In 1852, Matthew Perry, father of the USA Steam Navy, was assigned a diplomatic mission by American President Millard Fillmore to open Japanese ports to the west trade. The Admiral sailed four steam ships from Norfolk, Virginia to Japan. Along that trip the salt water stained the metal ships black. At that time, the Japanese had never seen such machines and referred to them as the “black ships”. This is where we take our name. Perry didn’t just open up Japan but all of Asia. This fateful meeting of the East and West cultures plays out in our menu.

Thoughts - this is a beautiful restaurant with a great view, but now that I’ve been I don’t need to go back. Drinks, appetizers, and the Mac and cheese were the star of the show. Most the main courses were not very good nor worth the price. The steak had the weirdest flavor, chicken was wayyy too salty, wedge was just eh. Service was nothing spectacular. They forgot one of our salads, we found ourselves actually asking eachother where the waitresses was at more than once. I guess with an automatic 18% gratuity included service doesn’t need to be impeccable. If you’re looking for experience/nice view rather than top tier food I would say go here, but there is much better 5 star food and service in Dallas. Like I said we won’t be going back

For the most part, the food was excellent. The only issue that we had was my ribeye (cote de boeuf) was really gristly. Hey, no big deal. Every now and then you get a bad steak. Our server, Delton (absolutely fabulous service) immediately took it away and sent over the GM (which I appreciate, but wasn’t necessary). I wasn’t exactly a fan of the way the manager handled it, although I will definitely go back. We love Bob’s. When the manager visited our table, he suggested that I go with a different steak, and began to kinda suggest that there wasn’t anything wrong with the steak, but I just wasn’t accustomed to a bone in ribeye (I order them every time they are available, at any steak house I go to. It’s my favorite steak) ignoring the pile of gristle I had piled on the plate. Like I said, no big deal. We will go back.
