Amazing food, the cheddar souffle with leek in rich cream sauce is so so tasty, presented perfect, my friend had belly of pork looked so good, you won't be disappointed, you get what you pay for. I had cheese cake for dessert nicely presented with small rich flavours, perfect amount of food. I live very far away but it's worth the journey. Lovely friendly staff, beautiful decor. Perfect.

It was my first visit to the Green Oak we have wanted to go for a while and it did not disappoint. Such a lovely place we were greeted warmly and had a lovely table. The car park was busy it looked like there was a lot of people but inside it was spacious with plenty of room. The service was first class so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious beautifully cooked we had the fish and chips. It was my birthday and I was given complimentary sweet treat which was a lovely touch. I would highly recommend a visit and we will definitely return.

Taking hospitality back to its roots with a warm welcome from our genuinely friendly team breathing new life back into the heart of the community.
The menu will offer daily, hyper-seasonal specials, and plenty of British game, meat and fish. Executive chef and owner, Jamie Dobbin is passionate about local sourcing and traditional dishes, such as Half dozen Porthilly rock oysters with shallot dressing, Brixham King scallops with burnt butter cauliflower and caviar or Portland hogget Shepherd’s pie with grilled cutlet.
Serious meat lovers can expect 45 day aged native and rare breed steak on offer as well as a hero dish of Beef Wellington for two. Fish is of course wild, sustainable, and British, sourced from day boats on the South coast with the daily catch delivered straight to the door in a matter of hours. There is a handsome bar menu too, and as always, Sunday roasts are a big fixture on the menu every week.

We had an excellent lunchtime meal here today. All of the food was excellent, with good portion sizes and it was really good value (there is a 2 course offer in the afternoon). The staff were all really friendly and made sure we had everything we needed and the pub itself is really nice and has a good atmosphere. Ourselves and two other couples get together once a month for a meal at different restaurants and pubs. We chose the Sword in Hand as it has a good reputation for food, and isn’t far from where we live. The meal was exquisite, 4 of us having the “Christmas pie” and thoroughly enjoyed it. The other 2 had chicken schnitzel, and fish and chips, who also had no complaints. The service was impeccable, giving extra commendation to the younger staff who were very attentive, ensuring we were happy with the meals and drinks. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Absolutely wonderful as always, the food was brilliant and everyone who served us was lovely. They also put a candle in my husbands dessert for his birthday, which I really appreciated. However, they absolutely need to do something about the toilets. In the middle of a cold, wet, winters evening it’s really unpleasant needing to go outside into the mud to go to the toilet in a shed in the garden centre. Not really appropriate for a £100 a head dining experience. The only dark spot on an otherwise lovely evening.

About the restaurant
In 2016 the Old School BBQ was born, using a freshly imported 1982 Bluebird International American school bus from Arizona as a mobile kitchen.

The bus was converted from a traditional seated bus to a fully functional kitchen, with smokers and griddles to cook low and slow BBQ food.  The OSB journey had begun, trading from humble beginnings on a local pub car park in Failsworth.

Our little yellow bus soon became a familiar landmark and we became more and more popular with lunch goers who wanted freshly prepared, appetising food served with a smile.  Soon demand meant that we would be more often than not greeting our customers with a "sold out" sign, so it was time to expand.

So here we are, with a covered seated area serving our firm favourites, complemented with a fully licenced bar and WC facilities... did we mention the stage?  That's right, we also provide live music from various acts from near and far - we are sure you will find our eatery to be like no other!

We had a really nice meal, served by a wonderful host. It was a shame we were the only people in for a while, added to during the meal as a few came to the bar for a pint or two, so ambiance a little lacking. Timing, we guess, as it was a late lunch. Rocky Bottoms started out as an 1800s brick kiln with a purpose to fire bricks. Eventually the brick kiln was unable to compete with larger competitors and closed down after WW2. Since this time the brick kiln has offered itself as agricultural storage until it collapsed and stood derelict.

In 2008 the brick kiln’s potential and need of restoration was spotted by local fishing family; The Matthews. After years of love and attention, Rocky Bottoms, as we know it today was born. Our doors opened in May 2015, just in time for the start of the crab season. We deliver local shellfish from pot to plate in a laid back environment. The most beautiful restaurant especially in a window seat overlooking the river. The service is spot on- attentive but not at all intrusive eg when our water ran out it was quickly and quietly replaced before we’d even noticed. Second time we’ve been here. Obviously Sundays are very popular as much busier than when we first went which added to the good buzz. We were advised there may be a delay on food as they were so busy, but there wasn’t . The food was superb, we all had the white onion soup with truffle oil to start, followed by a roast. Everything was piping hot and very tasty. Portions were so generous no room for desert but we rounded things off with a cocktail (the negroni mocktail for the driver )was particularly good. Nothing negative to say- well worth a visit.

Well what a lovely hidden gem. We have been to this country pub several times and it never disappoints. Outside there is a lovely pond with ducks and seating with tables brilliant for a summer evening drink, today however we sat inside and ordered from the festive menu, both of our meals were really good, I had the slow cooked beek, absolutly delicious one of the best piecies of beef I have had the sauce the whole plate of food was wonderful. All of the staff were really nice and friendly lovely to have a chat and feel so welcolme. We were one of the first people there so not sure if the heating was still catching up it could have done with being a bit warmere in the room. Were already planning to take friends in the new year.

Managed to get a table at their very popular Xmas by candlelight event and had a delightful couple of hours. Had to go to the 5.30pm sitting, no others available, which was a bit early for us. Our table was booked for another couple at 7.30pm which we would have preferred. Food was very good. We shared a starter of pate which was unremarkable but the main courses of venison and pork were excellent, as were the desserts. We sat right by the log fire and the premises looked very pretty with lots of fairy lights and candles. Next year we will book earlier and get a later table. Recommended.

About the restaurant
The Crathorne Arms is a great pub in a wonderful community spirited village, lovely people, Lord Crathorne himself couldn’t be more supportive, how lucky we are.

Our life has come a full circle from a town pub in Middlesbrough (well Eugene has) to the tontine (McCoys Hotel, Restaurant and Bistro) to a village pub in Crathorne, Ten Minutes from Middlesbrough.

We live above the pub, our furniture and furnishings live downstairs as they can’t and won’t fit up the stairs! So the canoe has the condiments, the bookcases our books, the huge sofa with big squashy cushions to sink into, tin lanterns reflecting patterns on the ceiling, this all makes for a homely feel and that’s what we would like to create along with good wholesome food and drink.

Of Course the staff, front of house and kitchen are all great, hardworking, smiley, enthusiastic young people and a joy to work with.

It’s always a treat to eat at the Crathorne Arms. This was a very busy evening in the week before Christmas but the staff coped brilliantly and were friendly and cheerful. Great food
