Very interesting and varied menu. The gumbo was superior and coming from New Orleans that says a lot. The Rockefeller oysters were great. The Ahi tuna salad entrée was really good. Great grouper and flounder entrées as well. The service was excellent. Maren did an outstanding job.

Inside, cowboy kitsch, 1950s diner decor, and Mexican folk art mingle, as do workers from the nearby county offices, local movers and shakers, and anyone else looking for terrific food that, like the decor, defies easy categorization.

Call it South Texas gourmet. This occasion we had the Salt & Pepper Shrimp for an appetizer then decided to try the Steak & Frites and it was fantastic! I usually get the Blackened Ribeye, a Burger, or the Brick Chicken. Perla’s food and service are always wonderful. Today’s server, Kristen, upped the bar. She was fantastic.
