   We were seated quickly and served water. And that was it. A waiter never showed up. The tables to the right and left and behind us all got served. After sitting for 30 minutes we left. This is not the service expected from a 21C.

   For the life of me I can’t figure out why Lockbox isn’t considered the best restaurant in Lexington. It is by far the most fun, creative and exciting food in town. Every time I eat there I am absolutely blown away by the food and the prices. We had the mushroom toast, charred broccoli and baked feta as appetizers. They were all incredible. Big city food at Lexington prices. For entree we had the chicken and rabbit mafalde. Again it was perfectly seasoned and hot. Joel’s butter cake was an incredible dessert. I could not stop eating it. Please please please do yourself a favor and try their food!

We really have put a lot of effort into our winter menu, which is sadly about to turn into our Spring menu, but it will bring the freshest of spring ingredients we can source from our local farmers. One of our favorites is the rabbit mafalde, it is quite heavenly. Appreciate the nod to our kitchen team and our efforts to provide fresh, locally sourced ingredients at a reasonable price, it's not easy!    Our second trip to this restaurant, this time with a larger party. Lockbox has a modest but varied dinner menu and a robust selection of drinks and wine. The service and the food were excellent. Recommendations from the server were spot on The timing for ordering and service was good, leaving time for conversation and enjoying our appetizers but not too slow. The restaurant was bustling.

   I’ve always had wonderful experiences at Lockbox, but unfortunately, this time missed the mark. It seems like, in an attempt to accommodate more guests, they added extra tables—including some in places where tables probably shouldn’t exist. I was tucked into the corner of a long couch, facing a table so close that I was practically part of their date. At one point, I debated whether I should introduce myself or just start splitting the check. It felt incredibly smothering. My own date and I could barely hold a conversation without feeling like we were broadcasting a live podcast to the table next to us. And to make matters more lively, our table was stationed right next to the service station—so the constant buzz of staff activity made it even harder to enjoy the evening. To top it off, we were ignored at the bar for quite a while, despite sitting right in front of the bartenders, which was a bit embarrassing. On the bright side, our server was great, and one kind employee even offered to take our photo after watching my husband and me struggle with a selfie—so huge points for that! We received our food in a timely manner as well. I totally understand that Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest nights of the year, but the seating arrangements really took away from the experience. Sadly, we’re not sure if we’ll be back. Hopefully, they can rethink the layout for the future, because when Lockbox is at its best, it’s truly fantastic!

    The atmosphere and ambiance were great! The service was wonderful, and the food was delicious! The seating was a bit tight for my liking. Most of the seating is along walls with long couches on one side and chairs on the other. There was about 12" between us and the tables on either side. So, it's hard to have a private dinner, but it wouldn't deter me from going back. My wife and I truly enjoyed it!
