We went there for the cioppino but sadly it was not available due to the changing menu. Instead, we ended up with the miso Chilean sea bass and shellfish linguine. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. For starter, the freshly baked artisan rosemary sourdough bread was a hit. As for the service, our server Brenn B was fantastic. In general, Vail dining is expensive and this restaurant is more or less on par with other upscale establishments. We were skeptical of dining at a seafood restaurant in landlocked Vail at first but Montauk turned out to be one of the best fine dining experiences we had during our 5 night stay in Vail.

Excellent seafood meal in Vail Village. Only negative was the fried calamari. The calamari rings were tiny and all breading. The shrimp that came with it was great. We tried the swordfish, rare tuna and the shellfish linguini. Alll awesome. Very attentive service as well and fun vibe. After dinner check out the fossil store next door..amazing.

Montauk was the best dinner dining experience we had on this ski trip in Vail. It was superlative on all levels. We were seated immediately when we arrived. The server, Marianna was personable and so helpful and attentive. We had a great table. The cocktails were spot on. The food was so delicious.... we had oysters for an appetizer, the sea bass special and the chef's special tuna. It was all amazing. After eating at other restaurants in town this week, we appreciated the vibe at Montauk. The staff were relaxed and not hurrying your meal to turn the tables. We felt that other restaurants had too many tables for the space and there was a focus on volume of business for the evening. Montauk is always consistent year after year.
