Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Peninsula Grill offers an exquisite dining experience with "upscale service" and "impeccable" cuisine. Known for the "famous coconut cake," the restaurant is a "go-to special occasion spot" in Charleston. While some guests note occasional service lapses, the standout dishes like mussels and prime steaks cooked to "perfection" continue to delight diners.

Such a beautiful, warm atmosphere. Lighting is just right. Service is so professional and just right. Food is amazing!!! Had a fois gras appetizer special. Amazing! And of course, the coconut cake is the perfect finish! Will always be a dinner spot for us when we visit Charleston!

Service was great but the food came out the wrong temperature and had to send back and the sides were overly salty and we didn’t eat them.

Food as expected for similar restaurants, slower service, no “wow” experiences.

Sommelier was fantastic The one she suggested was one of the best I've had what an excited about the 250 price point but it was about 105 bucks retail so that's about right..Robert Foley 2018... But unfortunately for what you paid and we paid around $580 for just two of us It just fell way way short, we had a burrata salad and a Caesar both really just not very good Caesar very dry and pistachios overwhelmed the burrata.. We had the caviar service for 125, The lesser of the three that was offered the sturgeon actually was good but They brought just onions, dry chives, creme fresh and potato chips ..none of the other accompaniments such as egg came with it...We were going to split the trout dish that was around 65 bucks The way it was prepared it was wrapped and it was so dry it was inedible I don't know if it was an off night or maybe the regular chef could not make it in due to the bad weather very disappointed..

My sis and I went for dinner. It was a easy process to book. We order food and felt a little pushed to buy a bottle of wine . We also noted on the reservation that it was a birthday celebration. The server indicated that she put a piece of cake for us in a bag for my sister. Then I received the bill where she charged us for cake ! So no celebration at the table and wanting to charge us for her celebration cake. We were snowed in and really wanted these celebrations to be special. My server seemed like she was well versed at how to up sale at the detriment of just good caring service. We ended up taking half bottle to the hotel in the snow. We really just wanted two more glasses at a decent pour.

Peninsula Grill is our fine dining go to restaurant. But tonight, it didn’t quite meet our expectations. My filet was delicious. Every time we order steak at PG, it’s delicious. The disappointment was a grouper special that my husband and son in law ordered. The fish was very over cooked - dry and chewy. We should have sent it back. We also had scallops, mussels, she crab soup, garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, tart tatin and crème brulee. All of those dishes were very good to excellent.

Always an amazing restaurant, we go each time we visit Charleston. This time felt a little bit different, maybe not their best night? The food didn’t come out at the correct temperatures and their amazing lobster trio wasn’t as amazing. They changed the components and plating plus the pasta was so hard, not even al dente. The server was good but not great. The standard is high from past experiences not to mention the value that is expected with the spend. We’ll always go back but I hope it was only one bad night.
