Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Our first visit tonight to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. The place is nice. We dressed nice ( girls in dresses ,guys in slacks and button downs). Other tables had people in sweats, which took away from the ambiance a bit. The food was very good. We had the wagyu steak, ordered it medium rare. It came out more medium well with just a very small hint of pink. It was still very tasty but would have preferred it to be cooked as ordered. Still a very enjoyable meal. My husband also had the bacon wrapped scallops, and I had oysters Rockefeller. Our waiter brought out a dessert with a candle after our meal, which was a very nice touch.

Our waiter and the food were great. On very busy nights they do absolutely no substitutions on their menu. Even changing a salad dressing on their wedge salad. 👎

Went with a large group of friends so we may have contributed to an increase in noise level! But we did sit in the bar, so hopefully didn’t disrupt anyone’s quiet meal. Food was excellent. Service was a bit slow, but they didn’t have a lot of help that night so our waitress did a great job for having to take care of so many tables. We had fun, enjoyed our meals, and will come back!
