The Heritage is one of the many classroom/laboratory facilities operated by the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education at Grand Rapids Community College. The restaurant is staffed by students in the culinary programs and is under the direct supervision of Chef and Dining Room Professors.During lunch, your meal will be prepared and served by first year students. The meals represent International Cuisine with modern and classical touches. In the evening, The Heritage reopens to feature a relaxed atmosphere, more Continental Cuisine, and our second year students will serve and prepare your meal. The Secchia Institute for Culinary Education restaurants and kitchens are classroom settings. We take pride in them. We cleaned our plates! The new sorghum pepper fried chicken was great. Our old standard of the honey dusted fried dark meat chicken was, as always, fabulous. We alllll had the collard greens- yummy! I tried the chicken tortilla soup as a side & I can't wait to have it again. Your sweet tea is the best in this area. (Being from the South, we think we're experts!)

Service was slow. The place was not busy. Although the website says make reservations for Friday and Saturday as they will be busy. When we arrived there was no hostess with a sign saying seat yourself. May have been a nontypical Friday. But our biggest annoyance was slow service predominantly with bar drinks. This seemed odd given how empty the place was. Food overall was good. The waitress was friendly just as noted very slow bar service.
