“In Syrian culture, we can’t make any journey without first planning the food. If you decide to go to the cinema, you plan what you’ll eat. If you plan to visit your mother, you know that you’re going to eat. There’s no going out without eating something.”-Imad AlarnabImad Alarnab was a successful restaurateur in Damascus with three restaurants, plus several juice bars and cafes. In the war, Imad's restaurants were destroyed and he was forced to flee the country in search of safety for his family. Making his way from Lebanon through Europe, Imad shared his skills cooking for other refugees, up to 400 at a time, and found even in the most challenging times, his passion for food and bringing people together to celebrate life was strong.

A favourite of Clapham Junction's Northcote Road since 1990 - an awfully long time in the London restaurant scene - Osteria Antica Bologna is as fresh and thrilling an Italian restaurant as the day it first opened its doors. It conjures up images of hidden away village osterias in the wild countryside of Emilia Romagna or the rolling hills of Tuscany, its cheerful welcome befitting of an old family favourite. Chef Marzio Zacchi passionately believes in using fresh, locally sourced and seasonal produce having grown up in Biella in the Piemonte countryside surrounded by a family who reared chickens, grew veg and cured their own salami. However, despite his rustic upbringing, Marzio has brought to Osteria Antica Bologna’s food the kind of sophistication that can only be gained through several years training in top London restaurants including Zafferano, Rosmarino, Spiga and Alloro. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

We had a very good dinner and perfect service - kind attentive but not fussy. We were two old friends who had not seen each other for a long time. It was the perfect place for a catch up and we were given a quiet table at the back.

We had a superb meal - to be candid this a restaurant rather than a gastropub. My starter of clam chowder showed the skill of the chef: no flour, hit of sweetcorn, tasty fish which wasn't over cooked and a real depth of creamy flavour. Beautifully presented. Best clam chowder I've ever had (and I have been to Boston). My main of chicken breast that was broiled and finished on et char grill was equally exceptional. Great flavour and served a bed of roasted new potatoes and green veg with a sauce and a gravy, all beautifully presented (again). The ambience is great: lively but not noisy, a definite local and handy for the theatre, all set off by crisp white linen and sparkling cutlery and glassware. Thank you very much - we won't be looking any further next time we are in Richmond!
